To not win two world cups in a row, let alone make the final in two world cups in a row is a huge failure by USA basketball. Grant Hill and Steve Kerr need to resign tonight.
All these European teams like Serbia, Germany, Spain benefit from consistency. They grow together and keep the same team but for 2-3 players that break into the team. That helps a lot. The US needs this consistency, they keep sending new players that don’t know how to play with each other.

Absolute embarrassment
International basketball is so weird compared to what I’m used to in Football.
There’s no question of “IF” when it comes whether players will play international major tournament, mostly because of FIFA rules, but also because players themselves want to represent nation, sometimes even sacrificing their careers at the top for world cup win.
Where does this difference is coming from?
Crazy the standards the US national team is held to. Win gold in every event every time or it’s a disaster and you are mocked incessantly.

This is great for the NBA. The US is the ‘bad guy’ here, and I don’t blame anyone for rooting against us. Internationally, the game is really growing, which helps the league and worldwide basketball. If I did care that the US was the best at hoops (which I don’t, really), I don’t think anything has changed: the story is exciting precisely because it was an upset, which means everyone knew that the US has the reputation of being the best.
The NBA wants its players to play well and for more players and eyes to be drawn to basketball. Mission accomplished.
