It’s on Kerr to give his players the best chance to succeed, he did not. I feel bad for JJJ he’s getting a lot of unwarranted criticism in the midst of some warranted criticism.

  2. Solid-Confidence-966

I love how this sub acts like something happening in the present retroactively discredits something that happened in the past lol

Jaren is 4th on our depth chart at center. Right behind Aldama, who averages 4.2 rebounds. Jaren would have been 5th if Clarke wasn’t injured and left off depth chart.

  4. Admirable-Western-91

Dawg is averaging 2.8 rebounds playing center and got worked by Mo Wagner and Daniel Theis

Dude just isn’t right for the team. Should’ve just gave Duren, Stewart, Looney, Myles Turner, or Nic Claxton the spot

Hate when athletes say this stuff lol

DPOY has become a really weird award. Especially with this particular prototype of help side defenders like Jaren and Rob Williams and even Giannis kind of. They’re not “defensive anchors” but it *is* a hugely impactful role. Its the whole floor raiser / ceiling raiser thing again.

IMO Jaren, individually, is the least of their problems. They need to recalibrate the roster with at least one real C (that they’re going to actually play) and just generally get more defense out there

edit: also these reporters with “how do you respond to random social media user’s commentary” are lame as fuck

It wouldn’t be so bad if his team just had a rebounding philosophy of bigs focus on boxing out while guards grab the rebound and start the fast break, but that’s not what Memphis is doing and his boxing out is shit as well.

It’s an either or situation and he’s neither.

Could be that he’s chasing blocks so he’s always out of position after making guys miss. If you jump for everything you’re definitely not in position to box out.

  8. jumboponcho

JJJ is a great defender, he just needs to be playing with a real center

  9. Hungry_Raccoon200

Reigning DPOY got bullied by Theis and Mo Wagner.

This dude had the whole nba world fooled. Bro was getting away with murder last year FIBA refs not the same as NBA refs simple as that.

    [Narrator voice]

    It was not all good.

  12. tulsuduke

It helps being tall, but a lot of rebounding is about “want-to” and instincts (Rodman, Barkley and Ben Wallace are all well south of 7-feet and each were league leaders in rebounding).

  13. Shaq_Fu_Da_Return

If Dennis Rodman could grab 16 rebounds per game at 6’7 Jaren should be able to get more than 3. Fiba or not

  14. Dajoeman

Westbrook would’ve been a better Center.

Honestly, I’d rather have an above average blocker (or even average) but an elite rebounder than an elite blocker but below average rebounder. Rebounds secure a possession while blocks could go either way. Not gonna argue how he plays for Memphis, it’s working for them but it’s such a shame that he can’t rebound during this world cup against majority non-NBA talents.

  16. slicksonslick

Shame, the only response is shame.

To defend JJJ, he’s defensive player of the year not rebounding player of the year
but rebounding is a part of defense, so shame.

  17. Pale-Cress-6271

Damn he’s soft. This is so sad

  18. ayending1

He can blame FIBA for not letting him bring his Grizzlies scorekeeper, “my man would say I’ve averaged 12 rebounds and 6 blocks per game.”

  19. RyanZee08

Remember how good Aquaman was at getting russ all the rebounds as well? Well I think we can see why JJJ can roam the way he does

I actually feel bad for jjj here people really taking one game where he’s not playing at his best position as a sign to shit on his entire career. It’s kinda crazy this sub gets more n more recency bias and hating ass takes . Guy had a historic block %, yes I think AD is better defensively but some of the other guys floated around I don’t think we’re better ( seriously Lopez ? Who’s case was even more block numbers based abd is nowhere near as mobile and played bad in international before but people want him now in USA over jjj?). Jjj did have some responsibility in that loss in kinda suprised he didn’t get any blocks or impsct much at the rim when it came down to it but people need to chill a bit . Yes I know feel bad for multi millionaires like they need it

Dudes a fucking child can’t even stop dribbling to take accountability. I love basketball but holy shit it’s filled with babies.

  23. DPOY getting worked overseas like an IG model

  24. ultralitebiim

Needs to beat the Whiteside allegations at some point

  25. yungrobbithan

JJJ is overrated as fuck, man is a foul machine and can’t rebound for shit.

  26. EvilJabFace

They hand out defensive mvps like participation trophies they don’t mean shit in todays NBA.

  27. notatowel420

Evan Mobley was defensive player of the year last year and wouldn’t have gone down like a bitch in FIBA.

  28. Apprehensive-Bag5908

This guy is a fucking scrub

  29. Dirkem96

I’ve been saying JJJ is overrated since last year and no one wants to hear it. Yes, he gets blocks, but he sells out for them all the time. Meaning he probably fouls the guy, or is completely out of position to finish the play for his team.
And no boxing out as a center is pathetic and shows poor motivation and work ethic.

  30. t-reads

It’s all good? What a dumb response, take some accountability and admit you need to play better smh
