If you were Ant – what would you do here? Down 4 with 30 seconds left. Would love to discuss basketball strategies
USA found success with Edwards being really aggressive with his scoring. He has a lane open to drive middle, too! Jackson was looking for the pass, it was just way off target and that might be it for them pic.twitter.com/NdVTVnb6xn

Hypothetical ways to score this possession
1. Lane open in the middle to attack. He could easily blow by others to get to the rim. 2 points. Hopefully draw a foul. Then Ant can intentionally miss, team rebounds and makes a layup for 2 more points.
2. Shoot a contested three – there’s a lot of time on the clock though. Then they’d need a steal after
3. Drive and kick to Mikal or Hali for a three (efficient shooters). They’d need a steal after
4. Pick and Pop with JJJ. I’m assuming Ant was thinking JJJ was going to pop. That’s probably what KAT would have done.
5. Pick and roll with JJJ. JJJ rolls after the screen and Ant dishes it to him for an easy 2.
What other choices could the team make?
I’d say #1 is the best option. No one can guard Ant driving, he is too big and too fast. The lane was open and he could score 2 points in 4-5 seconds. Personally I think this should almost always be the default option – he can score at will at the rim and he can do it really fast. Forget the threes.
Jackson sets the screen he should either hard roll or pop. He does neither right away and Ant has the right idea he just shouldn’t have fired the pass that hard when he didn’t have eyes on him. Otherwise I love the play.
Sure you can get away with it but I was always taught that jump passes were poor technique and generally should be avoided.
