Steve Ballmer: “We’re working on a [Clippers] “season pass” instead of a “season ticket”. You buy a season ticket, you sell it if you’re not going. I don’t like that. That’s how we get the other team’s fans. A season pass, like Netflix, you can share it with 3-4 people. You can’t sell that.”

>we’re trying to sell fewer season tickets
Absolutely garbage btw
he’s got enough money i guess he’s not trying to make more at this point
“We want to make season tickets worse without any tangible benefit”
Bold move.
So Ballmer can make money but his customers can’t. Just incentivising your fans not to buy season tickets
Yeah, I wouldn’t like that as a season ticket holder. It’s 41 games and life happens. If I can’t go, I would like to do whatever I want with my tickets. Maybe just limit season ticket sales to 3rd party ticket sellers if you want more home fans.
Interesting concept, but it would have to be a fair bit cheaper if you can’t resell any of the tickets to get money back. I don’t know a ton of people with season tix but the ones who do definitely use the ability to resell as a way to convince themselves to do it
probably like 50% of the people attending clippers home games are the other teams fans
Could be cool if it’s significantly cheaper
That shit looks like the Battle Pass
If his goal is to reduce the number of season tickets sold to opposing fans it instead of limiting each ticket to 3-4 people make a pool of “waiting list” Clipper fans that have first eligibility into buying tickets straight from the original holder at cost, or slightly reduced if it’s close to tip off.
“I want to make this very clear, I want as little people in those stands as possible.”
I get where he’s coming from, but I’d guess a very large percentage of season ticket holders can only afford to do it because of the tickets they sell to the games they aren’t going to.
Great strategy, piss off all of the season ticket holders as you are building a new stadium.
Lmao and why the fuck would anyone buy that
You gotta give value to a product, reselling ability is one way thats done
He was saying for years he wanted a European style loyalty system for tickets but I guess that didn’t pan out.
Split between 3-4 people? One season pass covers all the clippers fans in LA
Yeah see Steve sometimes non-billionaires need to recoup some money from a pricey purchase.
We can’t all just just go aw shucks can’t make it to the game tonight, $300 worth of tickets down the drain no biggy.
When will the Clippers understand that their problem with fandom is their location…
He wants you to stop making money off of his asset.
Sounds like he didn’t like the extra home games the lakers get each year 😉
You get other teams’ fans because a) you bought the *Clippers* and b) the star players you brought in barely play
I went to 26 Clippers games last season, and paid an average of $10.50 per game, via their Ultimate Season Pass deal. It is not difficult to find free or cheap parking, particularly if you ride a motorcycle like me. I was able to renew the Ultimate Season Pass this season at the same price – for new customers it is more, but there are no black out games (6 games are blacked out for me).
The team also offers Clippervision, which allows you to watch every game without cable, except for ESPN / TNT games (I believe). At three different games I went to last year, Chuck the Condor “won” Clippervision for the crowd by hitting half court shots and what not. Otherwise, it’s $199 for the season, but frequently only $99, and there are no commercials.
Anyway, despite all the heartbreak of being a Clippers fan, it’s nice to root for a team that genuinely seems to provide good, affordable experiences for their fans. It’s been cool to watch the fanbase grow, particularly among Latinx / Asian communities over the past few seasons.
I think it’s fine to say you don’t want resellers selling to opposition fans. A frequent solution in Europe for soccer is SSH’s can only sell at cost through a portal on the clubs website via an “exchange”.
You can get access to the exchange by buying a club membership, for some clubs just it’s just signing up with an email, others it costs $20-50 a year and you get other stuff with it. I think this might be a reasonable option to accomplish both sides of this without nuking SSH when they can’t go to games.
Please buy the Magic Steve 🙏
Suddenly this sub supports ticketmaster and scalpers lol. Yall are too much.
If you don’t want fans to resell their tickets then make sure the stars that they paid to see play actually play.
Hey billionaires: stop selling people things if you don’t want them to own it! Just put your money in a nice index fund and shut the fuck up
They did this for Sacramento games last year but a monthly pass. Everyone I know that did it, loved it.
> like Netflix
Netflix: Hey, fuck you. We don’t do that anymore.
Any Kings pass holders around? I saw 10 games in a month for $49 a couple years ago. It was more to park at a lot, $10 than to see a game. Maybe 2/10 were lower bowl tickets too.
So he’s trying to time share season tickets
I don’t yet see how it’s gonna work but kudos for trying new concepts to make the games more fun.
They actually do that for Venezuelan baseball games to reduce people buying season tickets just for scalping (big problem). Your ‘season ticket’ is essentially a plastic credit card type card. You can give it to any friend you want etc, and a picture gets taken each game to make sure people dont reuse it. but you need the card back after the game.
