Did he even play 12 MPG in the playoffs

  2. Imkitoto

I love JV but seems a little high considering the other contracts we signed

  3. rhovickkkkkk

how the hell did the lakers secure vando and reaves on team-friendly deals

  4. zewayofjay

    I mean that’s a good deal, right???

  5. Cheechers23

That’s less than the full MLE now (which will be going up with the cap every year) so that’s pretty solid I’d say.

  6. reavesforthree

better than losing the asset for nothing i guess, i didn’t think this was coming at all

  7. MrAppleSpoink

This deal certainly banks on his upside but even a single improvement in any of his finishing, shooting, or screening could make this worth it.

  8. iCOULDbewr0ng

From unplayable in the playoffs to a 50mil fully guaranteed contract, he can’t be mad at that!

  9. lopea182

Even if you’re not as high on Vando, this is a very team-friendly contract and it can easily be moved in a larger trade down the road if the Lakers chose to do so.

  10. slysonic7

That’s great value in today’s market. Not even MLE money

Glad to have Vando back. Let’s hope he improved his offense. Defensively he was NICE

  12. NbaAllDAYger

Team friendly deal for the Lakers, easy win, Vando will always be a…. double edged sword, great on defense guarding bigger players , can be 4vs5 on offense.

I’m sorry but who’s exactly klutch sports ceo? I keep forgetting.

A reminder that Rich Paul actually contributed zero percent to this, guy is a clown put in place by LeBron, who for some reason includes this clown in his ‘inner circle’.

Solid deal, will get better as the cap rises. Jarred is a great regular season player for the Lakers with some decent match up potential in the playoffs. Still young enough that he could develop his shot more as his career goes on. If he does, he could become a key playoff rotation player for the Lakers.

Lakers are definitely looking to lock down all their under-30 players now before the cap keeps spiking. Will put them in a great position to replace LeBron with their superstar of the 2020s.

Solid deal that’ll probably look even better as the cap grows over the next few years. Feel if he gets a full season with the team under his belt Vando can hopefully get a much better feel for system and role

  17. Cul_what

This is actually amazing wtf? Less than the MLE a team friendly deal he really just needs to polish his offense cause his defense is already so good he’s well worth it fs

Get Rob on the phone, said it won’t be long.

    Pelinka cooking as usual.

    I think it’s very reasonable

    I’d give this move a B

Is it changing the Lakers 4 year plans? No. But I think it has minimal chance to fuck them up financially, while giving them the flexibility to combine him in a bigger trade with Russell for example.

I think the Lakers might have mildly overpaid but it’s worth it to maintain the chemistry and not risk a player’s leaving. Part of what you’re paying for in an extension is getting the deal done right now. At age 24 Vanderbilt probably can still get better.

Everyone keeps talking about how he didn’t play much after the Memphis series, which is valid, but I view him as a spot starter and Wood protector now that it was leaked Hachimura is starting.

Bench 5’s are rare, but a full one for the Lakers could have Vincent, Christie, Prince, JV, and Wood. I think that’s enough shooting for him to play the Ben Simmons dunker spot.

I think they believe JV makes Wood more playable.

  20. LordRio123

Seems like a good contract for both sides. Team has flexibility to trade him since he’s a wing, locked in 4 years, and cheap.

  21. themixedwonder

he develops that 3 ball a bit and he can be a real problem.

  22. AncientMarsupial3

AD and Vando locked down through 26/27, Reaves, Vincent, and Hachimura locked down through 25/26

    Solid base

  23. motorboat_mcgee

Glad to extend him. If he develops a passable three, then its cheap to hold on to him. If not, it’s very tradable. And for him, it’s fully guaranteed, doesn’t have to worry about free-agency. Win-win

  24. sequoia2075

This seems totally fine to me. Maybe a bit much for Vando, but can’t really see this being a bad contract moving forward. He’s never going to be one of those dudes that actively hurts teams — his defensive versatility is always going to have some kind of value even if he never improves on offense. Plus it locks in basically all of his prime years.

The number should look a little better 2 years from now after the cap increases too. And in the meantime, gives the Lakers added flexibility in trades — not having any of these $10-$20M contracts to aggregate in trades has really handcuffed us over the last several years. Now we have several of them

  25. d4nowar

He was a really good pickup for the regular season, just didn’t work well in the playoffs.

  26. mrbrownstone

He can’t shoot and can’t finish. BUT, his 3-point shooting jumped from nothing to 14% to 32% in the last 3 seasons, so more improvement seems likely to me. If he could shoot 36% and just dunk the damn ball when he catches it under the hoop, this will be a great deal for LA.

  27. blobthetoasterstrood

This lakers roster might be the best they’ve had in the LeBron era. DLo/Reaves/LeBron/Rui/AD with Gabe Vincent/Taurean Prince/Vando/CWood/Jaxson Hayes off the bench.

  28. FrankieBarbingo

One of my favorite players in the league. Happy to see him get paid, hate that it’s the Lakers lmao

  29. YoungNissan

Clutch Sports CEO Rich Paul is a title I wanna achieve in life one day

  30. LIKEAIRIRIZE

People talking about offense here, should think about 2 things. Full Training Camp with the team, and working in the summer with Phill Handy. We will see next season a much better Vando fit with the team, plus the Lakers are going to be stack on the forward positions and can matchup with any type of team IMO. Another body at center to try and matchup with Jokic is what this team needs, or a game plan that works not having that time of body on him. https://lakersnation.com/lakers-video-rui-hachimura-jarred-vanderbilt-working-out-with-phil-handy-in-greece/

I get that relative to other contracts / what he might have been able to get this is a fair deal all around. Just never ceases to amaze me how much money these guys make. $12 million is more than most will make in a lifetime, he makes it in a year. And he can’t shoot!

  32. Wild-Exchange6257

That is great value. Lakers feel like they are a well ran team now. I really like VanDo

  33. handgredave

He’s a fine rotation piece. Not sure who else was giving him that kind of money but at the end of the day the Lakers have their team locked thru Lebrons retirement and if bron is happy with these guys that’s kinda all that matters.

  34. BodegaDaddy

we’re locked in post bron. excited for now and the future.

  35. dumberthansocks

I’m going to get downvoted to hell but this feels like an overpay for someone who is borderline useless. As someone who was gambling at a high level throughout the Lakers playoff run, this guy never once cleared the bare minimum lines of points, assists, rebounds, or blocks. His stat line always looked like a box of Krispy Kreme donuts. I know Klutch is elite at getting their guys paid but one really sticks out.
