Deandre Ayton | The Phoenix Suns’ X Factor

I’m more optimistic about the Phoenix Suns than most. I’m not concerned about any alleged “overlap” between Beal, Booker and Durant (they’re gonna be fine). The real questions lie elsewhere and to me the biggest one of them all (literally and figuratively) is Deandre Ayton. I’ve been getting the sense that the consensus on Ayton is at an all-time low (with general NBA fans and Suns fans) and for good reason. His playoffs last year, espeically against the Nuggets, was…yeah. However I think with a new ownership group, a new coach, a legit offensive trio, and just a mix of new players, I think Ayton can get back on track and become the glue that holds everything together. Vogel is going to have to find a way to bring out what we saw from Ayton defensively the previous two seasons, especially the 2021 playoffs, and also bring out the offensive stuff we saw in Ayton’s series against the Pelicans, and blend those two together. That is the kind of big that can push Phoenix over the top. I’m still high on Ayton. Question is can he get back on track?

  1. As exciting as they are, haven’t we seen in recent years that teams with 3 random stars combined isn’t stopping a well constructed roster? Yuta > beal
