John Collins shows love to the Atlanta Hawks organization: “Thank you for allowing me a place to grow. But as I see, it is this hawk’s time to fly away from the nest. As my growth here is being stunted.”

> ATL…..I know….. I took my time with this one. But this one definitely stung. Being thrown into this fire as a kid, having no clue of the journey in front of me. It’s amazing how 6 years can fly by. Atlanta, Thank you for the Swag, the Culture, the LOVE, and thank you for embracing the kid with open arms. Atlanta thank you for never taking it easy on me. Because I am proud to leave you as a man! 🍑❤️

Can John Collins get back to being a 20/10 guy in Utah now that he’s free from the shackles of Traeball?

We’ll see how he performs with a chip on his shoulder that he seems to clearly have. He’s basically 26, so this is the prime of his career now and his 3 ball did start to come back to him when the calendar flipped last season.

I kinda don’t see him ever shooting in the high-30s again from 3. If he can be 35% from 3, then 20/10 may not happen for him but he’ll be a force for the Jazz. A great addition for Utah because he’s someone who works without the ball and can generate easy baskets and with a team with the off ball movement, passing, pace that the Jazz play with, I’m expecting Collins to be a great fit and have a very nice season.

His career would look very different if he didn’t destroy his finger and with it, his shooting ability.

love JC but that finger injury was his downfall, he just wasnt cutting it as a stretch big anymore

Also Trae set him up so well, tf you mean trae ball?

That dunk on Embiid though lol

i wouldn’t say it’s Trae’s fault his role and his stats diminished, the culprit is Capela, they put JC in the corner, didn’t let him play to his strengths. im very excited to see what he does with a difference team because him on the Hawks was a partnership that needed to end for his best and the Hawks best. I’m excited to see how he plays in Utah. 👍 Will root for him the same way I root for Kevin Huerter!

The most overrated 2k player I ever seen. A real abomination. In 2k21 he was a freaking 86. An 86 use to be like top 15-20 player in the league.

I’m not even a Trae fan but the only reason Collins looked decent is because of Trae. Collins can’t create his own shot like at all his least assisted shot of his career was his second year in the league and was still assisted 75 percent of the time and now his finger is fucked so he is even more limited on offense.

I love John Collins, but it is with that love that I say, John Collins is so corny that cannibals wouldn’t eat the dude.

He’s going to have a great chance to show whether he’s an All-Star caliber 20/10 player.

It seems Hawks fans think he’s been overrated in the pass and is holding the team back, but I feel like that may be unfair.

We’ll hopefully get to see him spread his wings, if he can. Happy for him, and I hope it works out.

I fully agree OP. Collins is finally free from the best lob passer and arguably the best playmaker in the league, good riddance.

I’ve had a “trigger finger” fracture/break before during my junior szn, bro got screwed with suffering a break that causes long term chronic pain/ligament issues. Love JC and hope he succeeds and stays healthy

(For those that don’t know, trigger finger is either hyperextending, jamming, or hitting your finger to the point where ligaments and tendons tear off the bone and chip the bone with it. Eventually the finger curls up at the break point unless constant therapy/motion/treatment) https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC9048087/#:~:text=Trigger%20finger%20is%20a%20rare,cases%20across%20varying%20treatment%20modalities.

it’s rough phrasing but its probably better to not pull that one sentence out as an excerpt. i honestly think he was just trying to stick to the bird leaving the nest metaphor but it comes across a bit awkwardly

I wonder if he considered surgery removing the finger. Prob help with the pain and shooting

    Lmao the “shackles of Traeball”.

As if having one of the best playmakers in the league is somehow a bad, or even, mediocre thing.

I love JC, but he owes about 50% of his already high contract to Trae. Everybody says 20/10 JC as if 15 out of those 20 points weren’t lobs or passes from Trae served on a silver platter.

    For those who are unaware:

Shackles of Traeball = 10.2 assists per game (2nd in NBA)
