Mavs GM Nico Harrison came into the offseason with a very clear, very necessary vision for a team that, despite finishing in the top 10 offensively, ranked 25th defensively and couldn’t stop a middle school team from scoring in the paint late in the year.
What he’s accomplished has been nothing short of miraculous. From the precipice of absolute disaster to a team many are starting to talk about as a dark horse in the Western Conference, Harrison has cemented himself as the architect of a legitimate contender.

Hyped for DJJ, he’s going to be a perfect depth piece that this team needed on the wing
If nothing else, he literally saved our future by blocking Wright's 3 point attempt to win/tie the game at the end of last season.

Not sure I agree with you. This position is filled with new tallent that Need to develop fast. I dont see him getting much time. Unless of course injuries rear its ugly head.

Bringing back Dwight Powell was a no brainer, for specially for the price. What better guy to have mentor your future big man than one who’s one of the better pick and rollers in the league.

This signing is good since athletic defensive wings are always needed but not really necessary for Dallas.

I would hold off on all the Nico the Genius Wizard stuff. If we are gonna pretend that he's the one in charge. than he is the one that didn't sign Brunson for 13.5 mil a year. Losing JB for nothing was a move that many fans and com mentors felt could be the 1st domonoe to end the mavs and lukas run with the team. Rather that's true or not, We all can agree it was a embarrassingly dumb decision and one that should make a person forever be skeptical of the person who made the decision.
To me, I don't blame a PR shoe guy whose only qualification is that he gave a shoe contract to some stars.(every GM etc role is to be nice and friendly to stars who might could be a future employee). Na Shark has meddled way to much, He almost stopped us getting Dirk and he got rid of Nash and JB and Refused to let the GM draft Gianiss, He broke the championship team up by wanting the DPOY in Dwight Howard, Doesn't get him and loses Tyson in the process who becomes the DPOY in NYC. The list goes on and on and on. He has his own TV show sprouting what a Bidness Genius he is. He said it Nicos first day. "I make the Final Decisions".
So do I blame Nico for us losing JB. No, I blame Shark, So I'm not quick to give out accolades to a PR guy who is working for a meddling owner who loves him some Shadow GMs.
Obviously Exum was the Utah Shadow GM move as well as a couple assitant coaches.
And this DJJ move in particular is strickly a Cuban move like Kemba was last season. Remember he's the one that nixed the Dragic trade in 2019 because he demanded miami include DJJ in the trade. Obviously Dragic was Mr. International Donnies trade and would have been a great one as they get him for almost nothing as a 3rd team salary dump and he went on to not only be a AllStar but to lead his team to the Finals before injuries set in. But cubes insisted on DJJ being part of it and it became a really Embarrassing move as then Cubes is denying they were never serious about it etc.
The reason why this really matters is that the problem the mavs had had since Don Nelson was in charge was the Owner not letting the GM do his job(from Gianiss to Nash). So pretending the mavs have a Guy in charge not nick named Shark Tank is really misleading.
I'm sure Nico has some input but what expertise does he have beside all that"He has Friendships that will bring Free Agents here" mumbojumbo.
Frankly I can't wait for Donnies tell all. A GM that was instrumental in trying to get the Mavs four future MVP's(I'm including Luka's future one here) and that he was fired two years after getting Luka(by approaching the owner the same way he did Gianiss and bet his job that this player was a generational talent. Well after leaking how Cubes drunk gambling buddy was in charge of the Draft Room and Cubes said the story was "Complete Bullshit", he fires the GM the next day and then the Coach quits the day after. That should tell you all you need to know.
Cuban's ego is the same as it was when he and the last real GM Don Nelson went to war over Nash. Course he and also nash did have some bitter revenge against their former team(Sadly ours).
Great Pod! I'll only push back on your Nico praise a little bit. Dallas FO were terrible last off-season, and is the reason why they are climbing out of a hole now. I can't say this team is much better than it was last season yet, especially if DP & THJ are still getting minutes.

Nico and Kidd both said it: The Luka era has been hampered by a lack of plus athletes. This is also a magic bullet when you have Kyrie. When he was in Boston and Brooklyn, teams that lacked plus athletes.
