Why Ben Simmons Will Be The NBA’s Best Story This Season

Ben Simmons gave another interview this week, this time his first to local New York outlets, and there continues to be an air of positivity around his return to the court this season. Things are lining up, at least if Ben Simmons can be believed here, to be one of the better comeback stories in awhile.

Of course, Ben Simmons’ time in Brooklyn has been marred by injury and underwhelming play, but it appears as if his health is trending in the right direction now. He’s set to have a major impact on the Nets this season, and he represents the exact kind of player the team desperately needs right now.

The Locked on Nets guys take a look at Ben Simmons’ most recent quotes and what the expectations are coming into this season.

  1. The best version of Ben Simmons was when Joel Embid was out injured and they won 16 games in row with virtually no names. Joel is ball dominant which slows him down. The team built around him now is perfectly suited for him and the whole team. Team ball wins for player engagement, fans, and consistency in results. Here we go Brooklyn this will be an amazing season and we there are no expectations.

  2. Ben Simmons has a rare skillset and as important as the defensive part of his game returning the strong playmaking skills he brings with his crafty assists to his teammates could be a big key towards figuring out the teams offensive rhythm this season 🔥….

  3. One storyline we definitely need to look at is how Coach Vaughn will divide Ben Simmons and Spencer Dinwiddie's roles on this team given they both want to be the starting point guard.

If Simmons proves he's healthy and back to being a legit point guard Spencer Dinwiddie could become the backup point guard and help lead the second unit. Or Spencer Dinwiddie remains the starting point guard and Ben Simmons becomes the backup point guard/center for the second unit.

The one interesting thing is both Simmons and Dinwiddie's long term fit on this team after next season gets murky given Dinwiddie is a free agent and Simmons has a players option and Brooklyn might have to focus on building a big trade package to acquire a top point guard that becomes available in the future. Something to definitely think about for sure….

  4. Im liking the energy of this team. Team has players with great intangibles. Less pressure with low expectations….which is a great recipe for guys too over achieve.

  5. I always felt watching the nets last season simmons aint feel comfortable playing with kyrie n kd. idk if it was the pressure or their lack of intangibles but it was visible to me he aint like it like that. He rather play wit lesser guys that are friendly n move the ball more

  6. I agree Adam it really seems like he's ready because like you said I can't imagine him doing interviews speaking on his comeback to him not being able to be his true self which is All-star level

  7. I would love to see Ben bounce back this year. He could go on to change opinions on the effect of injured athletes and mental health!
Also I’m looking forward to him donning the green and gold! 🇦🇺🦘

  8. Good morning! Starting the day with the Locked On Nets alert is always refreshing. Over the past year and a half, since Ben Simmons joined the Brooklyn Nets, the Ben Simmons saga has been analyzed from every angle. In just about 13 days, it's time for Ben Simmons to step up and show and prove. My critique of Ben Simmons has never revolved around his mental health or back issues; it has always centered on acknowledging the weaknesses in his game and his commitment to improving them.

  9. Ben Simmons PR blitz, this summer, is a red herring. It's no coincident it came about during a period in which he's eligible for a contract extension. He hasn't done anything to improve his perimeter shooting since he's been in the league. So many red flags have went up, over Ben's NBA career about him that the Nets interest in seeing him improve his game should only be be to the extinct of building up his trade value enough to get rid of him as soon as time allow it. Should that happen, that'll be just another, of many blows to Sean Marks's credibility for the poor decision to trade James Harden for him.

  10. Do you think Ben Simmons is going to play in the preseason games or is he going to keep the Nets fans in suspense until the regular season. I predict the latter. I'm sure his PR blitz, this summer, has convinced many gullible fans that he's going to back up his optimistic talk about his return to form. If he doesn't, I could imagine the deer caught in the headlights expression on the faces of his fans.

  11. Simmons better show it on the court because this is it… if he hypes it up to this extent and doesn't back it up, that's it, no one will ever take him seriously again. And he's hanging by a thread of respectability.

  12. Got lil hope he’ll be good but there’s hope…I hope he can come thru for my Nets
