City Commissioner Dan Ryan on the Ownership Situation

“I promise we will do everything we can to make sure this is a franchise in the city for the long-term. As a fan, I’m worried. I mean, Paul Allen’s been deceased for five years in October and it’s just not working. We need new ownership going forward.”

Porter: “And Jody Allen says this team’s not for sale.” Ryan: “We’ll see. It’s important that we get out to support the Blazers, but we also need to hope that we can have some new ownership, some new life into the franchise so we don’t get stuck in some of the challenges we’re having right now”.

I know that a city commissioner doesn’t have anything to do with this but I still found it kind of jarring to hear a public official use that stark of language. This was during KGW’s “Straight Talk with Laural Porter”. Guess I don’t get this. Portland is looking to finally move on from Lillard and begin a new era. Jody hasn’t done anything egregiously wrong that I’ve seen.

The challenges were lack of talent because our GM refused to move on from CJ and lack of top draft picks.

Our current greatest challenge IMO is our coach, but Portland isn’t looking to win this season and I think letting a coach go 3-4 years into his contract is a lot better of a look than letting him go 2 years in and then firing him.

Ryan obviously might know something I don’t, but from what we’ve seen publicly Portland has made the right moves in the last couple of years.

Nothing to see here, everything is fine!

Dan Ryan is the most know-nothing, do-nothing politician in a city government full of know-nothing, do-nothing politicians.

For him to have the audacity to comment on somebody else’s house when his is so out of order is just a testament to how clueless he really is.

“The enemy of my enemy is my friend”. I’m no huge Jody Allen apologist by any means, but anyone who does stuff that Dan Ryan and Phil Knight dislike is going to win points with me.

It was in Paul Allen’s Will that Jody sell the team, he’s probably talking about legal action that can be taken to force the sale.

Let’s start a co-op and buy the team. I got $5 on it.

He wants some of that political money PK is throwing around.

The lease is up in 2025. That will come before the new TV deal. POR’s value at that time will be closer to $5-$6B, than the $2B “offer” from PK.

Why exactly is a city commissioner acting like he gets to decide who owns a private business?

  9. lunes_azul

What is he talking about? The team has been mismanaged for absolutely ages by the front office. What’s that got to do with Jody Allen?
