[Slater] Steve Kerr still hasn’t decided whether Chris Paul will start. He said the Warriors will look at various lineup combinations during camp. “If this is going to work, everyone is going to have to embrace it regardless of who starts.”

start him ahead of curry or no balls

  2. fireglz

This sounds similar to the Wiseman preseason rhetoric coming out of the Warriors prior to this year. I know you’re replacing a “how is he still this green?” Wiseman with a “My god this man is gray” Chris Paul, but you can’t force fit.

    Just ask Lebron.

Kerr finding new ways to go even smaller

  4. abstract_contact

Why is he/is anyone acting like such weirdos about it. Obviously CP3 isn’t starting. The choice is whether CP3 flames out and looks like a moron or not.

  5. RVAIsTheGreatest

Time for CP3 to put his money where his mouth is….

  6. BloodMoney1

Except in some very limited situations where he and Steph are on the floor together. There is no way he starts. It makes no sense to start two small guards with injury histories.

Translation: “We’re bringing Chris off the bench but he’s a proud player–deservedly so–so we’re pretending he might start for as long as possible”

After the dame situation is settled this will be the biggest story of training camp

  9. unclehelpful

If you can’t tell this is Steve saying CP3 is not starting then I don’t know what else to tell you.

  10. doordaesh

he’s pretty rigid in his rotations but between injury and rest there’s going to be plenty of minutes for whichever one is active

The fact that Chris hasn’t just been like “yeah of course I’ll come off the bench” is a red flag

  12. Feels like people don’t understand the issue here.

Even if Paul starts he’s not playing 35 MPG, his role is established, it’s just the tradition of starting and the short stints at the start and end of the game where the best lineups are on the floor.

Paul starting and coming out early is a real possibility to maintain the streak and to help get the team on an early run, but that means one of Wiggins/Klay/Dray isn’t starting even if it’s just a formality and they will play more minutes than Paul during the game.

The question is the last 4 minutes lineup and an ego thing, somebody will have to put something aside for the greater good, my prediction is Paul starts and Wiggins comes off the bench but plays 30+ MPG and is usually out there at the end of the game unless Paul was cooking that night.

People are suggesting “0% chris starts” like starting is really that big of a deal. It goes both ways in the sense that people suggesting this is just Kerr trying to save face before “obviously” not starting him are not appreciating that starting isn’t a big deal and its very possible Chris plays well enough with Steph in camp to justify a couple minutes at the start of the game with the starters.

Translation: I’ve decided he’s coming off the bench but it’s not the right time to say that yet

easy to see Loon will be coming off the bench. CP3 will want to be a starter. They’re gonna have more lineups with Dray at the 5 this season.

  15. _Jetto_

Cp3 said two months ago when he got traded he wasn’t gonna come off bench lol

  16. iHateOPsoMuch

Kerr and I are going to have the have a discussion.

  17. NascarDriver03

    Paul
    Curry
    Thompson
    Wiggins
    Draymond

  18. Naismythology

“Look, we all know Chris Paul has no business staring. But I can’t just *say* that. I don’t need a Westbrook situation here.”

  19. famousevan

Watch Steph ask to come off the bench just to try to win a sixth man award for the lols

  20. babysamissimasybab

CP3 running the offense for 15 minutes while Curry rests would be awesome. Anything more than that would sink them.

  21. TheNaziestofMods

I straight up forgot he was a warrior

  22. 20Keys2theHead

He’ll probably start on opening night , but that’s as far as I’m looking ahead at the moment

  23. Doomdoomkittydoom

Start with Curry on CP’s shoulders in a single, oversized uniform.

  24. ggomez22

As long as he’s not playing 25+ minutes a game I could care less if he starts or comes off the bench. I worry about another late season/post season injury more than anything

  25. kihraxz_king

I don’t see how any kind of extended minutes with CP3 and Curry on the floor together works out. They’re just too easy to shoot over. And that gives you… Wiggins and Klay at eh forwards and Green at the 5? Loony at eth 5 instead of Green? If you want Loony AND Green in the starting 5, I just don’t see how CP3 is also out there.

  26. Steve Kerr going with a new strategy of having a Starting 6 so nobody get their feelings hurt..Interesting

  27. itlynstalyn

This is Kerr code for he’s starting but I don’t want to get shit for it.

  28. markusalkemus66

This is how the Warriors dynasty will fall. Too many old journeyman types with big contracts and egos

  29. blarghghghghgh

One scenario I hadn’t considered much is Draymond as the 6th man. I think that might work pretty well in a lot of ways with Chris Paul running the offense to start the game and then Draymond coming in to up the defensive intensity and run the stuff he, Steph, and Klay have been running forever.

One important question for someone who watches GSW more closely than me—what’s each player’s usual substitution pattern?

  30. OwlAlert8461

I still believe in CP3. He will make a difference like he always has. I think even if he does notstart as a starter, you really can’t keep that amount of BBIQ off the floor. Not unless he just straight up starts coaching from the sidelines.

  31. Madz1trey

Hey Steve, if you think Poole was bad for team chemistry last year, you’re in for a treat this year lmao.

  32. ggproductivity

There’s gonna be at least 10 mins of overlap between Steph and CP3. But they can’t stagger them and have both start and finish the game unless you are playing CP3 like 14 mins straight, which is dumb as hell.

Idk how many continuous minutes you want CP3 on the floor, but you are forced to do it for like 8 if Steph keeps his normal minutes and they are staggered. I think starting CP3 and playing him more minutes in the 1st half than the 2nd makes a lot of sense. Something like first 6 mins of the 1st, first 8 mins of the 2nd, first 4 mins of the 3rd and the rest of the 3rd/4th that Steph is subbed out, which is around 8 mins. That’s 26 mins, which is about the amount I’d play him.

  33. ryuujinusa

At this point in his career if he cares about coming off the bench, then he’s done. He’ll never win a ring, ever. He can obviously contribute quite a bit as the bench ‘leader’ and I assume someone of his BB IQ will understand.

  34. RatLord445

Isnt he forced to start him per the new rules? Klay,Steph and CP3 are all-stars
