Did Dame not say he wouldn't report to Toronto? Why would they trade for someone that clearly doesn't want to play for the team?

Dame to Raptors? A one year shot in the dark if it doesn’t produce a championship. Then Dame would need moved to recoup losses. No one wants a disgruntled player long term. If Raptors pulled another victory like 2019 who knows. He may stay but Raptors FO aren’t in the business of ruining players lives long term.
Therefore Raptors shouldn’t trade Scottie, OG and should try to keep as many of their projects as possible. Mainly Gradey, Koloko & Precious. They need to protect their future.
If a team is trading for Dame they need defense. Even more reason to keep OG, Scottie. Plus Poeltl and Siakam. It’s about a championship not filling seats.
Salary has to match and Portland has to get something that lines up with remaining roster short term/long term. Or moveable at the next trade deadline.
So….. Gary is the only larger contract that fits or movable at the deadline. Hate to lose him as he’s young and works well with Toronto also. But something has to go……Portland needs to realize he’s not now what they gave up. Plus he still has a higher ceiling.
A lot of this trade is base around also helping with the Ayton/Nurkic trade. Portland needs to send veteran pieces that accommodate Suns win now mindset if they want Ayton. Not futures or simply salary dump. Rotational player or high IQ bench player that can be trusted not to do something stupid in 30 sec to 2 minutes. Players Raptors wouldn’t want to lose for their run but would if need be. Players Portland don’t have or want to send.
Therefore:
Portland: Deandre Ayton 3yrs, Gary Trent Jr. 1yrs, Chris Boucher 2yr, 2 first rd picks, 2 second rd picks. Raptors get 1-6 protection lifted from 2024 pick to spurs in order to offer Portland more desirable 1st.
Suns: Jusuf Nurkic 3yrs, Otto Porter Jr. 1yrs, Thaddeus Young 1yrs
Raptors: Damian Lillard 3yrs
