Most serious Raptor/NBA fans were on board from the beginning.
There are always going to be fans saying things like “Why did you trade Demar, he was my favourite!” I’m not knocking them for saying it, but it’s not like many that are super serious about basketball were against it.

I love Dame but Dame isn’t Kawhi lmao. Even a banged up Kawhi (as he was in the Bucks series) is still a different animal compared to Dame. Two way KILLER. Yeah, Dame is going to put up 30 (maybe even 40) but for what? how is that going to push us past the Celtics/Sixers/Bucks and even the Heat WHEN we’d probably have given up OG (our best defender 1-5) AND probably a few other players.
I definitely don’t think we’re pulling the trigger on this Dame trade. It’s all smoke. I rather have Pascal Siakam for another 5 years and see if another trade opportunity comes about where we give Scottie simultaneously more reps than give up quality players for an aging Dame who is shown signs the past half decade of getting banged up and is atrocious on defense.

Such a stupid take like people here didn’t know who was better. It wasn’t about that, it was about the love we all had as a fan base for this kid that grew up on the team and became an all-star.
We all fucking knew we were getting the better player but hated that we had to send Demar out. GTFO with these ignorant ass takes from people who don’t know shit about the fan base up here.
Edit: Demar Derozan is out basketball Jesus, who was sacrificed so we could have a chip.

demar had a lot of toxic fans to be fair

Its because most of the fanbase only watches the raps play. Only the casuals on here were pissed about the Demar trade. Idk how replacing Demar, who came up short every post season, with a FMVP was ever a bad idea.

Lillard is certainly a much more aggressive move when u look at the difference in the rosters.
That 2019 team was ready to win
bnewfan
What’s wrong with that. Demar repped us and had our back when no one else would. I’m happy to win the championship but we all know it would’ve been sweeter with Demar.
canadasteve04
I don’t feel that is accurate. The majority of fans knew Kawhi was better, but there was a faction of fans that wondered if trading a guy who had said he wants to be a lifelong Raptor, for what was likely a 1-year rental was the smartest move for the franchise in the long run, which was a valid question. The Kawhi situation worked out as good as anyone could have hoped (short of him re-signing), but if they hadn’t won that year, there would be valid criticism of the move.
Spider_Carnage23
Dumb take, any fanbase is going to be 50/50 on their team trading its star player of the last 10 years
robertoavarro
go look at my thread from 3 days ago. look how much i got flamed for even saying we should trade for Dame. Umbelievable how fast raptors fans flip.
Perfect600
No the discourse was on not winning and losing demar, the franchise player who did not want to leave for nothing. People were obviously attached.
Marauder91
I don’t know if fans had to be convinced kawhi was better than DeMar… I think it was more convincing them that a) kawhi would report, and b)that it is worth losing your franchise player for a guy who appears to not want to be here.
In hindsight it’s easy to say the right decision was made.. but it wasn’t a clear cut decision when it happened imo

To be honest, I didn’t love the trade either. We were trading for a guy where there were unknowns if he was going to be healthy enough, knew it was pretty much a one year rental, and didn’t think we had a good enough second option and players around him to get the job done. All while the Warriors were in the midst of having quite possibly the greatest team of all time. At the time I would’ve preferred they try to rebuild and maybe give some the guys from the successful “bench mob” a chance to succeed as starters
I don’t think much of the league gave us that big of a chance to win, heck, our Vegas odds at season start were +1850
At the end of the day you have to take a risk, especially if the team is in no mans land. The Kawhi trade was a risk, and so is the Dame trade if it happens
summer_friends
The angst was never about whether Kawhi is a much better player. The angst stemmed from report rumours that Kawhi wasn’t even going to show up. If that actually happened we would have just blown up the team
batmansupraman
Not I. Right after the trade I bought league pass. This is the only year I have ever done this. We knew who Kawhi was.
TO_Sports
I remember seeing someone on my FB feed say the team was just going to be an 8th seed again anyways and they did DeMar dirty and that is why ppl dont sign in Toronto lol..
n3moh0es
lmfao raptor fans hate everything i remember the fanbase crying and pissed off we got kawhi
Plantedballer
Pascal is Demar in this situation. Fans don’t want to trade him but it’s truly the best option for us
