The defense when Gobert was on was great. It’s being 28th in rebounding in the league. If you’re going to play two seven footers, rebound the fucking ball.

    Main summary:

    – Finch thinks teams are better at combating drop coverage now compared to years ago, and he wants to play up in coverage more. It will help generate turnovers and he thinks it will help the Wolves rebounding (“I think you rebound better when you are up because you are pulled in a little bit more; you are not spread out as much.”). Finch also said some of Rudy’s best numbers was when he was up, even though playing up in coverage was new to him.

    – Finch: “I am challenging Rudy [Gobert] this season to become not just a shot-blocker but a better verticality defender. As he transitions into the next phase of his career, that is something that will help him maintain elite rim protection.”

    – There will be more emphasis on the guards rebounding; Mike Conley has helped a lot. “I am a firm believer that you’ll never be a good rebounding team until your smalls rebound at an average or a plus level. What Mike was able to do was get all the 50/50 balls that bounced on the floor and that we were never able to get. We were a really poor 50/50 ball team.”

    – Finch wants to play Jaden off-ball more and thinks it will help his rebounding, reduce his fouling, and benefit him offensively because he is an outstanding cutter who can anticipate what’s coming two passes ahead. Now that we have NAW to stop wings, frequently playing Jaden off-ball is feasible.

    – Britt’s look at the stats shows that Jaden had a really really good offensive year, even better than the eye-test suggests and Finch says “yes, yet his usage went up by 1%”. Finch doesn’t know how to increase Jaden’s usage.

    – But Finch envisions Jaden as a Jrue Holiday type player. Jaden was very good at cutting last year and plays very well off of KAT. “When KAT was out for 50 games, he didn’t know where to put himself for a while moving off the ball. He is so good off the ball. I mentioned about Jrue Holiday earlier. Jrue has never been a super high-usage player, but he is a super high-impact guy. So Jaden has to just keep mining that shaft.”

    – Finch’s goals for Ant and Jaden are Ant drawing fouls and Jaden cutting down fouls and getting rebounds. “If we can keep stacking those improvements, that is where we gain our consistency. I mean, I’m not saying there aren’t big things to figure out, but it has to be built on that.”

    – Finch says that Jaden will have a contract lol
