Imagine being 7’ tall and 350lbs. Then imagine being able to move quickly and jump high. What a beast.
GutsWay
Wow this really puts into perspective how big he was. Defending him must’ve been terrifying.
yungtoni
bro david robinson and patrick ewing be taking beatings in this era of highlights lmao
confuddly
this is what I imagined Zion being like tbh, dominant and impossible to guard

I always feel bad for DRob when I see this play. Shaq inadvertently tripped him throwing him completely off balance.
BigDaddyJuno
It’s funny that David Robinson was an MVP and DPOY but he’s only ever really known for getting owned by other superstars lol
KingNephew
Shaq was doing this to one of the biggest freaks of nature in history in D-Rob and people think he couldn’t survive in the modern league.
Independent-Still-73
As bad as that is Hakeem vs Robinson in 95 WCF was worst
TatumTopFye
That’s the fucking Admiral he did that to. Shaq was another species.

Lesson of the day, kids. Shaq was scary. Next time you think Shaq was just some lumbering giant who was just bigger and stronger than everybody, think again. Shaq was an unbelievably agile and quick (for his size) giant who was bigger and stronger than everybody who can put the ball on the floor, had post moves, had a jump hook, etc.

He was a different animal
Js_On_My_Yeet
Prime Shaq was quite literally the most dominant player to ever touch a basketball.

Watching Shaq back then was so painful. Unless the Lakers were your team, you were always rooting against them—but watching Shaq abuse whatever poor sods were thrown against him each night just demoralized you. It felt helpless. Never felt anything similar to that in ~30 years of watching nba ball.
Xsafa
His footwork basically trips you and when you fall back to catch yourself he puts his giant frame into the space his defender leaves and jumps. Skill meets size.
NYdude777
I’d rather see basketball like this vs chucking up 3 pointers for 48 minutes.
Shagrrotten
Shaq’s agility and body control at his size was just insane to behold.
MasterMacMan
For the record, Robinson played him way better than this lowlight showed.
Dancinlance
and then takes him out with one leg for good measure lmfao
TheLostKee
The key to this move was that extremely powerful spin pivot. It dislodges Robinson’s feet and knocks him off balance, he actually does an amazing job of not falling straight over and even contesting, but alas, it is too late and he ends up on the wrong end of one of the nastiest plays in nba history.

90s centers would feast in modern nba
sstewart1617
He was so big, quick, and agile….
It made a huge difference when we had Timmy as a help defender, but…
Shaq in the modern era with just playing in the post with 4 shooters would be unstoppable.
dead-serious
my parents knew nothing about the game of basketball but whenever Shaq was playing on TV they instantly knew that the game was unfair; that’s how much of an impact he had during this era
LongjumpAdhesiveness
I remember there was a thread a few years ago asking if a prime Shaq could lead a Div 2 college (300+ of them) to a championship. The overwhelming consensus was that he couldn’t.
7ft 300+lb freak of nature.
I remember that thread anytime I question the intelligence of this sub.

Tor those sick of seeing the same two highlights posted every week of Hakeem and Shaq getting the better of the Admiral ( my hero growing up and the reason I’m a Spurs fan for 25 years + ), please know David Robinson was an absolute force in his own right and don’t let these two clips cloud your opinion on just how great he was ( and how we were robbed of more greatness with the back injury)
May you enjoy these two clips to make you feel a little better.
How were the Jazz able to stop Shaq both in 1997 and 1998?
LyonsKing12
I know Kobe proclaimed that an “in shape” Shaq is the Goat, but I honestly think his weight is what made him last as long as he did. I think he was able to absorb a lot more of the tremendous hacking that was happening because he of the extra weight.

And remember, in 2023, Robinson is the one living his best life, building schools for kids and scandal free, not the insecure bully [spruiking garbage betting products to problem gamblers](https://www.casino.org/news/pointsbet-nba-star-shaq-get-dubious-honor-for-worst-tv-spot-in-australia/) in Australia.
