[Sidery] In consecutive offseasons, four superstars had the Heat on their shortlist of preferred destinations: Donovan Mitchell, Durant, Bradley Beal, and Damian Lillard. For Miami to somehow not land any of them is a failure of epic proportions. It’s time to rightfully criticize Pat Riley and Co.

Do you agree with Sidery here? Is it time to criticize Pat Riley for missing out on three consecutive superstars? Four stars if you count Beal.

    Miami should trade for Jrue

    Would be the funniest timeline

  2. mMounirM

    don’t worry they’ll have another fairy tale run in the playoffs I’m sure

  3. Yeah Pat has never been good at any job he’s ever had. We need to fire him asap

    /s

    I’d bet a lot of money Joel Embiid gonna be up late tonight zillowing houses in Miami contemplating how much he wants to ruin his reputation in Philly by quietly asking for a trade like Kd did at the deadline.

  5. HokageEzio

    Imagine being in rumors for stars and not landing them.

  6. poodlejamz2

    pat riley has more rings than all these player’s teams combined

  7. The_Sign_of_Zeta

    You have to be willing to “overpay” for superstars. And you have to build relationships with other teams. Riley’s thinking he could force the Blazers hand is why he didn’t get Dame.

  8. tomdawg0022

    Miami made the Finals without landing any of those big names. Riley doesn’t need to be criticized. Why blow your load chasing a ring that may not come even though you’ve been to two finals in the past 4 years?

    No wonder Evan Sidery is jobless, no one knows you bum stop with the attention seeking takes

  10. Successful-End7689

    Durant wanted to go to the suns and the Beal trade would’ve been dumb considering his contract. Mitchell pretty much has a boner for playing at the garden so I doubt he was really
    Interested in coming.

  11. zellmerz

    Yeah, the guy whose team has been in 3 of the last 4 ECF and the Finals twice should be criticized…

  12. RunItBack2024

    In four consecutive offseasons

    2x Finals (should’ve been 3x)

    3x ECF

    Meanwhile, just look at how those other players have done in that time LOL

  13. thelunarunit

    One of riley’s key tenants is to never gut the franchise for anything. History shows he values flexibility and he has won three championships that way. If he went all in Damien they may have won a championship, they also may have been the brooklyn nets post garnett/pierce trade.

  14. xpillindaass

    have any of these guys made it out the 2nd round in the last 4 seasons?

  15. GregEgg4President

    Time to rightfully criticize Pat Riley and his:

    * 1 player championship
    * 1 asst. coach championship
    * 5 head coach championships
    * 2 executive championships

  16. Jicama-Smart

    dudes went deep into the playoffs multiple years in a row – why are we measuring based on free agent signings and not on court success???

  17. boogswald

    They didn’t have the best offer for any of them so this is kinda bullshit I think? Maybe they could fave landed Beal but they might not have even wanted him

  18. vwb2022

    It’s the price of success, they missed playoffs only 4 times in the last 20 years. What is worse, people have come to expect that Miami will sprinkle some Riley/Spoelstra magic in the future, so they expect them to make the playoffs every year.

    They’ve done a great job developing talent, but there is only so much you can do. Late round draft picks are not very appealing when it comes to trades.

  19. bananacuster

    ‘these superstars choosing their destinations is ruining the league’

  20. fella05

    For Durant, it seems like the Nets simply had zero intention of trading him last summer despite his request.

    Also, the Heat weren’t going to beat a package of Mikal Bridges, Cam Johnson, 4 unprotected first round picks, 1 unprotected first round pick swap, and 2 unprotected second round picks (from flipping Jae Crowder).

  21. Thehelloman0

    Right because the team that has made the finals 2 of the last 4 years and conference finals 1 of those years deserves criticism lol

  22. somecallmemo

    It’s not really Riley’s fault if they don’t have pieces other teams don’t covet. They’ve been in the finals 2 of 3 years so Riley is doing something right

  23. azizinator25

    In the past 4 years, they’ve made 3 ECFs and 2 NBA Finals. With a team they basically cobbled together on the fly without having to ever really rebuild after losing Lebron, then Wade to FA and Bosh to a freak medical condition. The Heat are doing just fine

  24. explicitviolence

    The Heat also made the finals in that span. None of those four have even come close. Maybe Miami knows what they are doing?

  25. OwningTheWorld

    This is such a shit take. Pat Riley is one of the Greatest Executives in the history of the game. He is the Reason why Miami has had any success. This guy should go kick rocks.

  26. TallanoGoldDigger

    Lmao the Lakers went through this same “criticism” too. Have fun Heat fans

  27. KUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUZ

    They made the finals this year. If you are criticizing them then you are dumb shiet of epic proportions, like shilldery here is

  28. PlanktonSemantics

    Yeah criticize the guy that turns undrafted players into certified NBA Finals starters

    what a doofus take

  29. mitch3311

    And yet over those 4 seasons they have made the finals more than any other team in the east 🤷🏻‍♂️
