[Charania] The Heat were prepared to offer up to three first-round draft picks — with Tyler Herro going to a third team — and multiple second-rounders and swaps along with expiring contracts and 2022 first-round pick Nikola Jović. But the Blazers were disinterested.

> For their part, league sources say the Heat were prepared in July and August to offer up to three first-round draft picks — with Tyler Herro going to a third team — and multiple second-rounders and swaps along with expiring contracts and 2022 first-round pick Nikola Jović. But the Blazers were disinterested, with each side developing a level of contentiousness.

> As the Blazers began to start serious trade talks across the league on Sept. 18, a bevy of teams — the Bucks, Celtics, Pelicans, Raptors, Timberwolves and Bulls — all showed interest in Lillard, league sources have told The Athletic. For all involved, the questions revolved around the price tag for Lillard and whether the roster would be able to compete for a championship post-acquisition.

‘*Prepared*’ to offer seems like a distinction.

  2. EddyTreeNJ

Will be interesting to see if Miami stands pat (pun intended…lol)

  3. Ayton + Jrue + 1 pick + 2 swaps > 3 picks, Jovic, and Ben Simmons, who was the player rumored to be coming instead of Herro.

They’re gonna get less from the Bucks but sometimes you just want to spite the team that’s trying to fuck you over

So three 1sts, multiple 2nds, swaps, and Jovic. They didn’t even include Jaren Jackson Jr. I can see why they were disinterested.

Shams also said Portland asked for Bam and Jimmy first 🥲 too much hostility between the two orgs to get it done

  7. Alear55

Heat FO in full damage control, they had plenty of time to improve their offer but never did and now that Dames in the Bucks all these pieces about they were ready to come with a better offer seem bs to me

  8. Super_Goomba64

Crybaby heat throwing a tantrum and melting down

B-b-b-b our offer was totally better!

  9. Low_Wall_7828

A bunch of firsts in the low 20s isn’t that appealing.

Portland took a worse offer out or spite for the greatest player in their franchises history . Miami told them to go find a better offer and they couldn’t 😂 . Those first round picks will be late first round picks 5 years from now, and will do nothing for them. Jrue will probably get them another 1 or 2 late first rounders from a contender. Tyler could’ve gotten first rounders out of bad teams, which would’ve been more valuable.

I would respect the move of shitting on Dame more if they actually got a good young player in return, and no Ayton doesn’t count, he was going there regardless of who got Dame. Now in 5 years from now when even less players want to play in Portland and Scoot eventually leaves for a big market, we’re going to look back on this trade as gross mismanagement. But i’m excited to hear how NBA reddit is going to justify this one for Portland 🤣 they literally asked us for Bam and got NOTHING in comparison

PS. Happy Dame got out of there and at least got to a good team, it would’ve been a shame if he ended up in Toronto… I heard their taxes are terrible 😂

Portland asked for Jimmy / Bam LMAO, they were never serious abt sending dame where he wanted

  12. UnitedStateOfDenmark

Better offer than what the Blazers got. Ayton would’ve been going to Blazers as well in this deal.

  13. Baker_TD_Maker

Yeahhhhh I don’t believe that. Otherwise reports of Oklahoma City being involved would have come out. Miami can’t offer three first round picks unless they lifted a protection on a pick they owe us and since that was only ever mentioned in passing it makes me think Miami was playing hard ball and never even got to the point of making that a real offer. They very well could have been willing to make that happen but it sounds like during the negotiations up to that point it was never even really offered.

    “prepared” “up to”

Lmao, riley knows he fucked up and is now on full damage control

  15. LazyTitan___

Damn probably should have made that offer. Heat damage control

  16. Cheapthrill4

The deal the Blazers ended up with is objectively lackluster. Why would they eschew Herro at age 23 for 33 year old Jrue? How is it that in a league obsessed with “upside” and under 25 talent, a 33 year old has more value than a 23 year old who recently won sixth man of the year? The answer: pride and peer pressure.
Joe Cronin was determined to save face in the Boston centric basketball media world. “Helping” Miami is simply untenable in that environment.

The article also states that the suns portion would have happened regardless, they would have worked with the bucks the nets or the heat.

The true trade comparison is what the bucks gave, not the full trade comparison.

  18. vincemeister55

Fuck it! The Miami Heat got really no beef with the Portland Trailblazers. It was Dame who dragged the Heat during the drama. Now, the Heat looked like the losers from this ordeal. Well, not the organization, but the fanbase. Dame low-key screwed the Heat by naming the Heat his only destination.

  19. WallOld615

So many butthurt Heat fans, it’s like Christmas morning.

  20. _moosleech

Blazers: Give us Jimmy or Bam.

Blazers: *No contact for months and then they accept a middling offer.*

/r/nba: “Why did the Heat low-ball and not try to work with Portland?!”

  21. Yea.. more heat bs leaking out. Just stop. Move on

  22. collapse1122

they thought dame demanding heat meant they could lowball blazers, and that other teams wouldn’t want a unhappy dame. overplayed their leverage

  23. HyBeHoYaiba

Everyone’s shitting on Pat but let’s be real for a second, when the Blazers started the negotiations at Bam Adebayo or Jimmy Butler you know they weren’t negotiating in good faith
