[Scotto] Jerami Grant, who becomes trade-eligible on January 15, is expected to become available before the trade deadline, according to rival league NBA executives who spoke with HoopsHype following the Lillard trade.

> “Grant could be the missing piece for a contending team the way Denver got Bruce Brown and Aaron Gordon,” an NBA scout told HoopsHype. “Maybe a team like Miami could take a swing if they’re still a player away.”

Grant is entering the first year of a 5/$160M contract.

His contract is terrible i don’t think teams will be rushing to trade for him

  3. Bballopinion

Why was he even offered that contract if they are going to trade him?

  4. Both_Funny4896

no one is trading for that contract lmao

  5. Dazegobye

    5 yr/160m is not a ‘swing’ a team takes. Thats a whole ass at-bat.

  6. He is a nice player but that contract is gonna hold him back from being traded

  7. GlueGuy00

May I interest you with Mook and RoCo’s expiring contracts?

  8. BBallHunter

Good player, but that contract is quite the hindrance.

    Not impossible to trade though.

Wonder how he feels about the Dame trade demand. On the plus side Dame waited long enough for him to get his bag, but the second that news came out he had to know he was gone.

Portland still needs to reach the cap floor when jrue is traded or leaves, no?

  11. Courseheir

They’re going to have to attach at minimum one unprotected 1st to get off that contract.

Wow, we are really going to try to tank hard. OKC model with picks.

  13. WanAjin

Well I’d love him on the Lakers but who is actually going to trade for him?

  14. Future NBA GM’s why would we do this? If we already have some young promising prospects (Scoot and Shaedon) to grow, along with other young players like Ant and Deandre, why tank more? Do we need another S tier prospect to give this a go? I feel like as far as quantity of young talent goes the Blazers aren’t number one, but probably in the top 5. Fielding the most competitive team with giving Scoot and Shaedon plenty of minutes sounds like a great growth opportunity to me for our young guys

There will be teams than even on the exorbitant salary Jerami is now making, that will make a move for him. He’s not untradeable at all. We have to all realize by now that teams will do what they feel they need to, to improve their teams and reach title contention. They’ll do what it takes. Jerami is in the prime of his career and a legit two way player.

I don’t think the Blazers are shopping him though…he’s available, but that is not the same as they shopping him.

Grant is not the missing piece for any contender. He’ll put up points at average rate and that’s about it.

  17. WhoDey1032

Realistically cant think of a team that would make this move ATM.

  18. xRyuzakii

Who the hell would give up any asset for him

People on here are dumb when it comes to player salaries. Grant is a good starting wing in his prime who can defend and shoot 3s taking up around 20% of a teams salary cap. That is literally just one bad contract or 2-3 mediocre contracts for a guy who fits the timeline of every contending team and fills the 4th best guy on a championship team role.

Portland will get something back for him. It might only be a few 2nds or a late 1st but they had to spend the money on something and it’s not like they have other wings who need playing time on the roster. Combine that with what they got for Dame and what they’ll get for Jrue and the Blazers got a really nice collection of assets forming as they build for the future.

I’m pretty sure he’s trade eligible December 15th, not January.

The problem for the Blazers with Grant is his contract. It’s long term money that goes up over the course of the deal, his player option will see him making $37m in his age 33 season.

Having said that I like Grant, he’s a long forward who can play both sides of the ball and is ok being a second or third option. He could be great for a contender but how many contenders can and will take on that long term money after the last CBA?

I guess we will find later this season.

I swear this isn’t me coming off as salty, but why do the Blazers keep rebuilding like every 5 years lol

  22. CabbageStockExchange

Seems like Portland has been handling and doing very well with pivoting from Dame and starting their rebuild. Feels like they have a plan

  23. doktarr

Comparing him to the key role players for Denver is pretty funny when he was on Denver, but left because he wanted more shots.

Not a lot of teams make sense except for two:

Knicks (get rid of Randle or Barrett) and the Sixers.

Sixers trade Harden and Harris for Holiday and Grant. Blazers move off some salary and the Sixers become a much better team.
