Damian Lillard Traded To The Bucks, Did Nets Miss Out?

Adam Armbrecht breaks down the the Damian Lillard trade to the Milwaukee Bucks, with some interesting details.

The Miami Heat made an offer that was rejected, and reports suggest Brooklyn was on Lillard’s alternative short-list

Did Brooklyn miss a chance at a lower cost superstar, how does the East reshape after this, and could more moves be coming?

  1. Ultimately getting Damian Lillard would have been a very short term move that would have cost them most of their important first round draft pick capital and likely Nic Claxton and some of their young players would have had to go back in the deal to Portland.

Also those last two years on Lillard's extension would have financially hindered Brooklyn from adding more talent around Dame Mikal and Cam to compete for a title.

Essentially Damian Lillard would have been a two year rental at most for Brooklyn and he doesn't fit our timeline.

Ultimately by the trade deadline or next off-season would be better for Brooklyn to potentially make that big move and it will be great seeing this team build their new foundation….

  2. Now as far as Jrue Holiday goes Miami looks like the team with the most urgency to want to add him and Tyler Herro again would have to be sent to a third team. Ultimately Brooklyn has the best Suns draft pick and matching salary to send out to Portland to acquire Herro while Miami gets Holiday.

  3. The Lillard trade surprised me but it made great sense for all involved. Everybody wins. I am glad BKN did not get involved. Kudos to all GMs.

As for the Nets, we need to stay the course and continue to play the hand of cards we now hold. Any moves between now and the deadline have to make long term and financial sense. We really need to see how we start the season off with the moves we have made over the summer. We are a relatively young second tier team and we need to see how the pieces fit.

  4. If Simmons is not on the roster, I can see Jrue here. But Ben and Jrue can't exactly share the ball.
