Toronto Raptors miss out, Bucks land Damian Lillard | Now what for Siakam, Barnes & the franchise?

In Episode 1482, Sean Woodley is joined by Jamar Hinds (Raptors Republic) to react to Damian Lillard getting traded to the Milwaukee Bucks in a three-teamer with the Portland Trail Blazers and the Phoenix Suns, and where that leaves the Toronto Raptors after they were reportedly very much in the running for the 7-time All-NBA point guard. Off the top, Sean and Jamar share their initial reactions to the reporting on how the trade went down. Ultimately, this doesn’t quite feel like a case where the Raptors balked at a readily available deal, and more like a loss of an honest bidding war to a Bucks team whose package the Blazers simply valued more. Still, that doesn’t excuse Masai Ujiri and Bobby Webster for the corner they’ve painted themselves into as a franchise going forward. Next, they chat about where this leaves the team with Lillard not coming in to revitalize the offense and define the team’s direction. In particular, they dive into the troubling reporting from Michael Grange about the team still not being sure about where they stand with their best player, Pascal Siakam, and are still in wait-and-see mode when it comes to whether or not they will commit to their 2-time All-NBA forward. Lastly, Sean and Jamar discuss what this means for Scottie Barnes, who now stands as one of the last remaining vehicles by which the Raptors can be lifted out of their state of purgatory. If he’s really That Dude in Year 3, then a lot of the Raptors problems become less problematic. But is it unfair to heap that level of pressure and responsibility onto Barnes, especially considering how ill-fitting the roster around him seems to be?

  1. Looking at the bright side, Raptors ownership may begin to realize that the front office is becoming more incompetent. If the Raptors have another mediocre season, some people in the front office may fired.

  2. Glad we missed out on dame. It would beca bad move. Time to move siakam now and develop some pieces.

  3. This was bad news for the Raptors. One the Bucks are pairing Giannis and Dame together. Not to mention Jrue will be traded soon by the Blazers and might end up in Miami or Boston.

Add to the fact that the Raptors front office is slow to make decisions and sometimes make no decision and lose players for nothing.

OG, Siakim, and Trent Jr. My bet is we can only keep 1 of those players and the others leave for nothing next summer.

Time to rebuild around Barnes Masai. Don’t drag your feet and lose players for nothing.

OG has not been happy with his role and even wanted to be traded if they Raptors wouldn’t offer more offensive opportunities. He not staying with Siakim and Barnes on the team.

If I were Masai and Bobby I would trade Siakim and Trent Jr before the start of the season to the highest bidders.

I would make OG the second option all year as that would convince him to stay.

Time to rebuild around Scottie. They need to fully commit to that now.

  4. OG for one of the best BB players of all time was a no brainer. That trade would have put Raptors in contention going forward. MU said we are going to win well so far we have been heading downhill not up hill

  5. Do you all notice this. Back in 2019 it was common to hear from Webster and Masai. Last two yesrs really not a peep out of those guys. They let a coach play starters 40 + per game no bringing on the young players. Not one ofvthem said a word. They have let players walk for nothing and alongvthis way given up first round picks to boot.

This is not a confidence booster for fans. They have a mess here to clean up and by the way MU comments that we were going to continue to win is fading or should I say evaporated.

  6. Why do rap fans want MU2 drain our team to match blazers best offer to have a team that dont make dame happy, we not a top 4 team and make linear move 4a 33year old owed 200million. Cmon guy.
