This is why you trade for Jrue

Brad’s thing has always been to prioritise players that have great advanced stats but are undervalued by the mainstream because they aren’t flashy (White, Horford, Porzingis, etc).

Jrue fits that, he’s 6th in DARKO, 12th in RAPTOR, 22nd in EPM and 18th in LEBRON

The guy just above him on that list is why the Celtics are fine even if they don’t. Derrick White is a fucking Beast.

The problem isn’t the regular season but rather the drop in the playoffs. If you filter his WAR in the playoffs he becomes 32nd and 40th in 21-22 and 22-23, behind even PP. His +- is still very good. His FG% has dropped anywhere from 8 to 12% between regular season and playoffs in the past 3 years.

You can always argue he was 2nd or 3rd option thus he had more defensive pressure on him and that’s true but we don’t know if he is willing to be a 4/5th option (if he does he comes here with a wink deal of extending for somewhat cheap).

The whole problem is that doing this trade is the opposite of what we did by trading Smart, which is being able to run double bigs for the majority of the game. If you can do what dangercat suggested then the picks aren’t such problem. The suggestion is to extend Blake to a salary to be a filler in this trade. That way you keep the bigs, get Jrue and probably use the picks.

This is why you don’t trade for him…..he’s now 33 years old coming off a season where his stats were inflated because Giannis and Middleton combined to miss 70 games.

You’d also have to include either Horford or Rob Williams. Obviously trading Rob would make no sense since his contract is so cheap.

So you trade away Brogdon and Horford and arguably you are not a better team. Horford is a leader who can facilitate, and hit 3’s at a great clip.

    Dumb trade.

How are you balancing the salaries to make a package for him?

Losing depth for a 33 year old guard seems silly.
