I think Joe wants to start the Scoot Henderson era, and there's not room for 4 more years of Dame on a massive contract in that. Dame got to go to a contender.
I think Dame is dropping this info out for his own PR, to make it look like he didn't demand a trade to a contender, he was reluctantly traded (therefore he is not ring chasing).

First thing, we need to acknowledge that this is a chris Haynes report. So its lillard biased obviously. We cant speak as if Cronin for sure didnt want to build around lillard the whole time. In reality we just dont know. Sure we can hold him accountable for not accomplishing what he said he was going to do. But we just dont know exactly what the offers were for the assets we had. Maybe Cronin really did want to trade the 3rd pick and simons but there just truly wasnt a package that made sense. Does the 3rd pick and simons make sense for OG? Doesnt do anything probably in terms of competing. Portland reportedly couldnt even get bridges. I dont know what the intentions of cronin were and neither do yall unless you are somone plugged in to blazers management. We shouldnt just take lillards reporting as fact when it may be his truth, but that doesnt make it the truth. Also we cannot move forward like lillard and his representation isn't a large part of the issue. We need to remember his representation means they are representatives of lillard. So nothing is being leaked or whatever without lillards knowledge. The threats to sit out if not traded to miami, the demade to one team. The lillard representation made the break up really messy. I don't know how any player could trust Cronin after witnessing his lies to Dame and the public for over a year. While his moves may make sense given the direction he decided to go, it doesn't change the fact that he has been full of shit the entire time. While Goodwin's actions are frustrating, it doesn't excuse how Cronin handled a top 75 player and someone who is loved in the region for a reason. Cronin failed. Cronin lied. And Cronin treated our best player like shit despite moving him to a team where he has a great chance to win. I don't know why any Blazer would trust or have faith in him.
Just think u trade Jrue Holiday to the Lakers we could get D'Angelo Russell and a 1st for him plus some other players then we can trade D'Angelo Russell to another team for another 1st rounder

Simply put, Dame asked out, him and his agent tried to strong arm Cronin, it didn't work, so Dame tried to ask to come back so that he had more time to put together a Heat trade (Haynes seemed to omit this major point 🤔🤔🤔) and Cronin had the balls to do what was right for the team.
