DET had nobody that could create their own shot. Drafting Melo would've helped DET tremendously for the future ESPECIALLY when they lost to LBJ because nobody could score. Melo ESPECIALLY at that time, with that team would've went toe to toe in scoring with LBJ & had defensive help & shooters ready like Rip, Mr. Big Shot & etc
Chauncey and Melo went to WCF in Denver. No way you are going to make me believe they wouldn't have won a title in the East, with Sheed and Ben added to that. Plus, Rip and Prince. Prince could've been an excellent 6th man, or Rip could've been.
Dude know damn well that Darko did nothing for the team whereas Melo would have gotten them more than one title. This dude actually compared Melo to Prince! 😂😂😂😂😂😂
I respectfully disagree with Big Ben. Melo on that team would've 3 peated. 2004, 2005, and 2006. Maybe not in 07 just because of the law of averages but they would've been a threat again in 08. Melo winning championships would've made him a different player I think. He wouldn't have been a stat hunter but a ring hunter. Look at Olympic Melo. He was a defender, a rebounder, and a scorer. Whatever he needed to do to win. That"'s how I believe he would've played with Chauncey, Rip, Sheed, and Big Ben with the best 6 man in the league The Palace Prince. Not picking him kept that group from being all-time great.
As much as I cant stand the Pistons but i respect them that 04 team was special. Tbh i disagree of course Melo would want to play he just came off a championship run in college but he would have knew his role because Coach Brown had a system structure and discipline i honestly think it would been good for Melo and the future of the Pistons. With the players they had on that team tbh melo would have fit perfectly he won in college now in the NBA to get a ring . Trust Melo would have played his role and stepped up when needed. I always said especially that team had stayed together for a minute i think 2 maybe 3 possible championships this team could of had seriously been a dangerous squad💯‼
It didn't necessarily have to be Melo. It could've been Wade or Bosh also. We had a fantastic opportunity to set the team up for the future and Joe blew the pick in the worst possible way. As glad as I am that we won another title in 2004 that team was kinda old and to me we underachieved only getting one title. The Spurs and then the Wade led Heat took us out. Bosh learning from Ben and Sheed would've been a beast. U see what Wade was. Just saying…
"I can't jump into your body and make the plays for you shump. So just pass me the ball and let ME do it."

Melo's career in a nutshell. Melo is a great player. But he doesnt make his teammates better. And honestly from what his teammates said about him, it doesn't really sound like he wants his teammates to be better, because he saw that as a threat to his position as the alpha. (Linsanity situation). Probably why he never even sniffed the finals let alone win a ring.
I really hate the fact that all fans can say is if Melo got drafted to Detroit. Detroit not drafting Melo is not the reason never won shit. The real issue was Melo denying to go to Miami with lebron and dwade that was his opportunity right there but he chose money plus I think he thought he was better than lebron.
Melo was not known for playing defense. Also, while in Denver, Chauncey Billups once said of Melo: "We could lose a game and Melo would be happy because he scored 45 points. And he would be upset of he only scored 15 points and the team won the game"
I love how many ppl are disagreeing with Ben, who was ACTUALLY on the team and part of the chemistry. Like us fans know better, who WEREN’T on the team lol
Truth is we should have traded the 2nd pic. Part of me has wondered would drafting Melo mess everything especially because we wouldn't have went for Sheed if we had Melo. Darko was a terrible pick but could have been productive for a lesser team who would have let him play. Trading the pic would have given us the most value
The Stars aligned for them that Year. But what they had was unsustainable they needed melo and melo needed them Larry brown worked a miacle just like he did in 88
At that time Detroit needed a big man. Ben Wallace was playing center at 6'9 . Dumars took a chance on a 7footer. It didn't work out. Hell it happens. Jordan wasn't drafted first. Tom Brady went 199 Dumars did what few men ever did. He assembled a championship team. So many players fail as coaches and gms . Bird, Isaiah, Jordan to name a few. They were one game away from repeating as championship. The spurs were just as good. Stop hating on the pistons. They did just fine. What the hell did Mello ever win. NOTHING 😅😅

Was that in 2004😮
If they drafted Melo then that block would not matter since they would shit on every team.

Yeah, yaw would have won two, maybe 3 in a row!
If The Pistons had Melo at that time, that series wouldn't have come down to that block!

Ben Wallace answered that question at gunpoint 😂

Nuggets Melo on them Piston’s could of made them a dynasty.

I agree.
The pistons still haven't recovered from passing on melo
Draft Melo then No Trade for Sheed
Never thought about it that way, I respected T. Prince’s game
Top 5 block for sure

Melo would have been a rookie he wouldn’t have had any juice to say when he can and can’t play that would’ve been on the coach
"melo was carrying us. But we was losing"

Tayshaun Prince put the clamps on the fraudulent rapist in that finals series Chauncey billups was killing him also

I disagree with ben respectfully
Prince started the block
I love Ben but this is some of the craziest things I've heard a professional say.
The 04 det pistons would’ve never had that defensive tenacity and identity of Melo was there
I agree

Melo is a diva attention whore. Great talent.
He hates when teamates are stealing the spotlight from him.
Chauncey or george karl said something along the lines of. Melo is not happy when he scores 10 in a win and hes happy when he scores 20 in a loss.
You won a championship because of kobe and shaq beef not for your hardwork.. ☠️😂😂
If we had Melo: Repeat faSho
I love how many ppl are disagreeing with Ben, who was ACTUALLY on the team and part of the chemistry. Like us fans know better, who WEREN’T on the team lol
Lebron block better 😂
What's this obsession with Melo when the Pistons could've also drafted Wade or Chris Bosch?Hall of famers who actually won something.
And at the end Melo neber wona ring
Memo was overrated like mcgrady.
Melo's rookie year no. But in the years after that he would have carried the offense.
The Pistons lost a lot of series in the 2000's simply because they ran into scoring droughts at the worst possible time.
Even Darko is Laughing at this Nonsense. 😅🤣😂

I approve this message.
I feel him but I disagree because I saw what Larry Brown did with Iverson and the 76'ers
Price was clutch… Prince was that guy and I don't even think he had a shot…
Then that means you don't have confidence in yourself or the team
