[SNY] RJ Barrett says that if needed, he is comfortable coming off the bench to play: “Whatever we need to do to win is what we’ll do… if that’s what I have to do, then I’ll do it. I’m very willing and glad to.”

Say whatever you want about this guy’s talent and ceiling but you can’t argue he’s not high character, saying and doing the right thing as a pro athlete day in and day out.

I honestly wouldn’t hate the idea of him coming off the bench. Splitting up the majority of his minutes away from Julius would probably open up his game a ton. As long as he’s still getting the same amount of minutes I don’t see why something like that wouldn’t be beneficial.

Although I’m not even sure why I bother thinking about it because I know damn well Thibs will never get creative with his rotations.

If it works then great but who are we replacing him with?

I don’t know why this was even brought up. It’d be dumb as hell to have him off the bench. He already runs with the 2s for a while when Brunson and Randle sit.

I wonder if he didn’t get his big pay day yet if he’d still be okay saying this.

  6. No argument RJ has always had a good head on his shoulders, despite his flaws and all the hate he receives.

  7. That mentality just shows why he was never able to achieve his draft spot potential.

  8. What’s he gonna say? “No, I wouldn’t accept that?” Whatever he might be thinking, he knows how to say the right thing.

Man I love this guy and this just made me respect him even more

That wasn’t even the question. It was about how comfortable does he feel playing the 4. He can start and still play minutes at the 4.

Kid has had incredible poise since Day 1. If he could just get some handles too. That’s all I need

I know it’s a low bar, but it is great to know that the worst thing you can say about our young prospect is that he is a mediocre shooter/finisher. A lot of dudes his age in the league have much more issues off the court. RJ’s work ethic and commitment to doing his best will always get my respect.

he got paid , it’s easier to selfless after you got your money .

and i say this as an RJ. fan

  14. Brunson/Quickley/Grimes/Randle/Robinson

    Divencenzo/Hart/Barrett/Roby/Hart

At least the starting lineup would have much better spacing and plenty of playmaking

  15. Classy remarks, but I doubt RJ is coming off the bench. Still got respect for him, and praying he shows up like he did during the playoffs.

It’s weird because we’ve shown how much having a great bench changes the way games are played out. I’ll say it out loud that we don’t do well without our bench. We’re one of the best benches in the league and it wins us games when they can put up a few minutes against starters and wear them down for us.
