It’s probably going to be like the Carabao Cup in English soccer/football

Yeah it’s a nice enough trophy to have but nobody actually cares that much if you lose and many top teams won’t go all out in it

Like aside from trolls/stans I can’t see any scenario where people bring up “in-season tournament wins” as a measure for a player’s legacy or something

maybe unpopular but I care. I think its a cool tourney that gives everyone a reason to play hard early in the season

  3. It’s just regular season games with a cash prize at the end. Idk why players or fans would have any negative feelings about it. The one extra game at the end I guess I could see players not liking.

Trying to get opponents to let their guard down before those upcoming group stage games, that’s pretty marcus of him.

I get the big contenders might not care about the tournament, but I’m sure a young up and coming team would be hyped to win it.

  6. I’m sure the dudes on minimum contracts feel much differently

Pretty ignorant of Marcus to speak for everyone

  7. Prestigious-Rock201

He’s not wrong hopefully players load manage during it

  8. Someone tell this guy the better the in season tourney is, the higher the salaries will go.

  9. kaiWarDun

everyone’s gonna love it when there’s a close game n the crowd is into it

  10. It hasn’t even happened yet, players won’t really know what to think about it until they actually experience it.

Eh he definitely doesn’t talk for all the players.

knucklehead, god im glad hes not on my team anymore

    grats memphis

  13. I think one way to get teams to give a shit about the in season tourney is to have it matter when the winner makes it to the playoffs. Something like having the winner have an automatic 1 game advantage (i.e. require 1 less win to advance) in the first round. Or maybe have the winner chose whether to use the one game advantage in the first or second rounds only.

  14. Nutholsters

Winner should have home field advantage every round of the playoffs. Make it matter.

So even the players don’t understand how it works? He mentioned it being “more basketball” TWICE which, if you even glanced at the format of the tournament, you’d know isn’t true outside of literally one game.

If anyone should be going for it the grizzlies should be the ones lmao like good luck beating the Warriors, Lakers, Nuggets, and Suns in the playoffs. This might be the only realistic chip for them this year at least barring a major trade

He’s right tho. In European soccer the thing that makes the in-season tournaments cool is that they include other teams from other leagues. Having the same exact teams play each other in a “side tournament” during the season makes zero sense.

I do care. Sorry to care. It’s fun and cool. I’m so excited that the league decided to pull the trigger on a shakeup like this. To hell with the players that are too cool for this.

Tell that to the two way guy looking at a big payday if you win.

I hate the Celtics but seeing Smart in anything but green feels so wrong. I thought he was gonna play there forever :/

  22. Warriors-in-da-house

Players have a chance to make more money for the 2 way guys. Fans get a chance to see more competitive bball during the season.

  23. LeAnthonyJavis

I forgot they were even doing that tournament

  24. Multiple sports exist with tournaments figured out and seasons perfected and yet here we are still trying to figure out how to make the games watchable.

Less games, that’s all there’s to it. It raises the importance of season games and lowers player wear and tear. Win win for everyone… except advertisers. Obviously, if this was a well run sport we’d care about things like making the sport make more interesting and better for the players.

When the guy who tries real hard doesn’t care more about it then it’s a bad sign
