[Highkin] Joe Cronin on Malcolm Brogdon’s future: “We want to have Malcolm come here and be a part of this…”

Full quote:

Joe Cronin on Malcolm Brogdon’s future: “We want to have Malcolm come here and be a part of this. He can bring some good on-court intangibles for us and also as a veteran, which is something we’re going to need. We have a very young roster. I want to make sure there’s enough veteran leadership around these guys.”

Not a bad plan. I’d imagine he gets moved at the deadline when the contender landscape is a bit more clear

His language here makes me think he knows Brogdon may not be that interested in a mentor role and that may decide it

But I think Brogdon may not be healthy.

  3. Well sure he’s not gonna say “we can’t wait to flip him at deadline!” This way they can take a look at him w young guys. I would imagine at his age and skill level he wants to go win but who knows.

  4. Subtext: we need him to prove he’s healthy and still a productive player so we can get more for him.

Malcolm doesn’t want that role so I imagine he gets traded, plus if Joe wants some veteran guards in the building to show the kids you can find some way cheaper than 22 mil.

Joe didn’t get the offer he wanted, so he’ll wait. We’ve seen this before. In the meantime, you have Malcolm Brogdon on your team. Not too shabby.

  7. I’d say if he’s willing, we should definitely keep him.

  8. Does anyone else low key feel like this current roster can be a playoff team? I know the guards are insanely young but every position looks so nice. We have guys that are so flexible playing multiple positions too, and depth!

Like I know the goal should be lottery pick but I can’t help but look at the roster and think damn, this is a real squad

Give him the Horford treatment. A half season of paid recovery and see who needs a guard at the deadline.

But I’m just skeptical how he’ll get minutes at all frankly.

Fair move, 1) to ensure his health before making moves and 2) it’s still good to have SOME veteran presence besides year 5 Ant and year 9 Grant

  11. This is indicative that he doesn’t have much value. We also don’t have much if any veteran leadership on this team. With that in mind, Brogdon’s leadership is going to be worth more than the expiring contract and small asset that we’d be able to flip him for.

If he’s willing to accept that role it would be great to have him. The added benefit is that it’s not a huge deal if he gets injured for us.

  12. move brogdon, i drafted ant in fantasy for a reason

Honestly a good move. I would still want to move him but would be great mentorship. Perfect vet

  15. Thats what hes supposed to say. I’d be surprised if was on the roster opening night. We dont have 25+ minutes to give him.
