Another somewhat declining contract is great. Obviously better for us to pay more early, and my guess that the last season may be about both meeting CBA rules (for the 5th year) and also to make it easier to extend him.
I also wonder if that lower year may be a particular offseason we are targeting to have some room/flexibility

Getting waaaaay ahead of myself here, but Dev making $27 mil in year 5 of this deal means (I think) that we could offer him an extension for up to around $40 mil a season when it’s time to negotiate his next deal
