[Highkin] Portland has made sense from jump as a WNBA market. Motivated ownership group that wants to spend money on it, the NBA team owns the arena and wants them to play there, huge women’s sports fan support with the Thorns and Oregon/Oregon State WBB. Checks all the boxes.

  1. Looks like Ripcity is about to welcome back a WNBA team to Portland! Awesome:

“Sources: Portland expected to be second WNBA expansion team”

“Multiple sources have told The Next that discussions about adding Portland to the WNBA’s next round of expansion have reached the Board of Governors level.

The addition of Portland to the widely-expected announcement Thursday to add a team in the Bay Area would swell the ranks to 14 teams in time for a pivotal season for the league, one in which the league will be negotiating its new media rights deal.”

Perfect! I got to cheer for the Storm during their golden era and now that it’s over I can start cheering for a true home team.

So much basketball in Portland in the next couple of years. Blazers, Fire(?), and the Remix. Gonna be great.

Smaller TV market, but would be top half of the league in attendance. The Atlanta Dream barely get 3,000. I might be able to actually watch games assuming it’s a separate better TV deal than the Blazers Root deal.
