[Ramona Shelburne] He ultimately chose to represent the United States, sources said, because he wants to help the United States return to the top of the international basketball world after it failed to medal at the World Championships in Manila this summer.

I don’t really give a shit which national team Embiid plays for. I just want the big man to be happy, and grow his game on an international stage if he has the health for it.

ultimately doesn’t really matter (tbh would’ve preferred if he didn’t play at all just due to injury concern) but would’ve been cool to see him represent anywhere else

  3. Team USA galaxy-brain lost at the World Basketball Championships ensure they got Embiid. Totally, 100% on purpose tank.

  4. “He ultimately decided to play for Team USA in case the Sixers implode and he needs relationships on other contenders to hit the eject button from Philadelphia.”

    There, fixed it for ya.

  5. This really is a bad excuse. Just say that you want the easy way to win. I would respect more.

Good for Joel. Olympic gold gonna look good on his HOF resume

Get the gold now while it’s easy and they desperately want him on the team, he can always play for Cameroon in the future if he uses the “for the betterment of basketball” argument

lol. I guess he is tired of losing in the 2nd round.

  9. Man, would have been so amped to watch him for the US if he had committed in time for the WC.

Anyway, it’s a whatever thing for me, I just wanna see him live his best life and hopefully bring some winning energy to lead this team to a chip.

So, with this announcement, Joel has committed himself to this NBA season & next summers Olympics. He’s going to be playing at minimum a year straight. Barring any injuries, Joel will be positioning himself to be in the best shape of his life. THIS IS A GREAT THING! Every Olympic cycle a player or players always take themselves and their games up a notch. IMO this is where we as fans of Jo, could see him at his best/most focused. Thanks for choosing to represent us Jo, now do us proud and bring that medal home!

This is loser shit, winning the gold medal for France in the Paris Olympics would’ve been legendary instead takes the easy way out

I wish he had gotten on a prior US national team, would’ve been great for his growth to have extended time practicing with guys like Curry and Lebron.
