Great interview from the DNVR boys. Loved how perceptive and thoughtful Reggie Jackson is. He describes Jokic’s focus as “maniacal” and talks about how he learned just as much (if not more) from when Jokic was sidelined with injury as he did from being on the court with him. On his greatness, he says: “**I don’t know if they’re chasing something or if they’re running from a ghost, but they never settle**.”

Harrison Wind asks Reggie Jackson about Jokic’s cool under pressure & how it compares to other greats. His response is as follows:

    >The way that he trains. The way that he works. He’s already a fun guy. He’s already relaxed. He knows those who love him love him regardless of what happens on that court, so I’m sure that’s a big reassurance for him. But that was probably the most impressive thing when I got around Nikola and getting to this team was seeing him work. And especially at the end of the season. I remember he had a calf strain, so he missed a few games, like three games. And it was cool to see the work even within those [missed] games, like how he rehabbed, how he was ready, how attentive he was to being out there for the team.
And some people are gonna be more vocal. They’re gonna tell you what they need from you at the moment on the court, even though they’re not playing. But [with Jokic] you can see in his eyes, whether we’re making mistakes or [if] they’re playing well. He’s assessing the team to see how we can be effective when [he’s]controlling it because it is his team. When we’re out there, how can we be effective? And that was a cool part. For me, like I said, I was sitting at the end of the bench, and I’m watching him to see because he’s kind of almost my—he’s gonna be my gauge. And it’s gonna trickle down. For me going on year 12, I’m like, “I need to measure everybody. Like [if] I could read your guys’s body language, that tells me if we have a real chance or not.” And how engaged [Jokic] was, he didn’t take a break off. He was still locked in. It wasn’t just rest days for him.
And then when he was gearing back up to get healthy, I’m watching his work ethic. Like the game ended, I think we won, and people don’t realize from the same outfit that he wore in the game, Nikola was immediately dressed, and I seen him go lifting and then I seen him on the court. [He has] the best touch probably in the league, and a lot of people think he’s naturally gifted. And, of course, you have to have some aspect of that, starting like that. But then you have to be maniacal in your mindset in terms of your work ethic to then perfect it. So that was the real cool thing, was to [get to] watch him. And I’m like “Yo, you don’t have to play. You got people right now think you’re the favorite still for the MVP. But you’re not resting on your laurels.” He kept pushing and pushing. He’s striving to be great and even just seeing him come back in camp, he’s—it’s great to see. When you’re around greatness, they’re great because I don’t know if they’re chasing something or if they’re running from a ghost, but they never settle.
