Is the Chris Paul Trade Secretly Perfect?

The Golden State Warriors trade for Chris Paul rightfully calls into question what exactly to expect, and how he actually fits into the system.

  1. It will teach Curry how to be a passing point guard and teach him how to catch and shoot more.

  2. CP3 will play heavy minutes , when Golden State trying to load manage Steph hard this year

  3. kinda dont think offense is going to be the issue with GSW. they need their championship defense back, and to not be a mental case on the road…

  4. i also think the midrange shot diet will help a ton, iirc GS was at the bottom for mid range jumpshots so adding this type of versatility should be perfect and potentially open up the floor for curry/klay even more

  5. I really would have liked to see him lead a bench team with Wiseman and Kaminga. Timing wasn't right but a 1-2 punch of CP and Kaminga is still promising.

  6. if anything, CP3 will be able to reproduce Pooles added value to the team in their championship run. That alone plus the addition of a versatile big man Saric, veteran wing Rudy Gay and the Warriors have pretty much reassembled that winning team. Couple that with the expected contributions from elite wings in their 3rd year in Kuminga and Moody and they pretty much habe their xfactor

  7. this whole vid could be nulify by: Injury and Defense… still dont see this is a good pick up… i see the replacement of Shaun Livingston but CP3 is too injury prone

  8. Great video. One thing I might add is that the Warriors are (probably) not banking on that small lineup (CP3, Steph, Klay, Wiggins, Draymond) to be elite defensively, instead, they are hoping that they will be so potent offensively that it won't necessarily matter how many points they give up because they are just simply going to score more than the opposition. It's a reasonable aspiration when you have Draymond on your team because his defensive ability almost guarantees at least a semi-respectable defense*. Last season, a lineup consisting of Steph, Poole, Wiggins, Klay, and Draymond had a 109.5 defensive rating in 155 minutes of action, the only issue was that lineup also had a 107.4 offensive rating. I think it's fair to say that Chris Paul is a better player than Jordan Poole (on both ends) and will probably help increase that lineup's offensive rating without increasing it's defensive rating. I think the sample size is too small to assume that the Warriors will be elite defensively** with this lineup, but it's fair to say that it can at least be pretty respectable (i.e. league average) and if the offense takes a significant jump, it can be pretty strong and a viable weapon for the Warriors in high leverage situations. For added context, in the '22 playoffs that same small lineup also had a 109.5 defensive rating, but the offensive rating was 123.2. The Warriors will be hoping for similar production from that lineup next season, they are just replacing Poole with Paul.

*No GSW lineup that included Draymond Green and played at least 80 minutes in the '22-'23 regular season (n=6) posted worse than a 114.6 defensive rating which would have ranked 20th in the NBA. For reference, JJJ, Brook Lopez and Evan Mobley, who all finished above Draymond in the DPOY voting, were involved in lineups (same parameters, n=6,3, and 5, respectively) that posted a 115.1, 122.4 and 118.1 defensive rating, respectively. This has been a consistent characteristic of Draymond throughout his career; when he is on the floor, he offers a very high defensive floor for any lineup that he is a part of.

**A 109.5 defensive rating would have been the best in the league last season.

  9. Their biggest issue has always been turnovers. Chris shores up that weakness, but gives them another. Too small and old.

  10. CP did great for OKC, and he’s truly a floor general. Is this a championship team? I doubt it, there size is pretty bad, especially going against the bucks, nuggets and lakers. I wish them the best.

  11. Except this guy ain't the CP3 that used to ball in the NBA, he is allrite, not the same player though

  12. steph ran pick and roll the playoffs before last… them niggas desperate, they'll persevere and do whatever it takes to win but the league really wants LeBron to win his fifth. LAL 160 FT atts GSW 80 FT atts.. so who knos y'kno

  13. I still remember him explaining to Toscano what he done wrong in defending him…just think the exploits he gonna teach our youngns oof

  14. Great breakdown. I like CP3 as a floor general for the second unit and to play clutch minutes with the starters during crunch time. CP3 will have an impact on the Dubs, but I still would have preferred we keep Jordan Poole. Well, we can thank Draymond for that breakup 😏
