google says Spurs play at Philly Jan 22.

Cameroon have Siakam and Koloko from the NBA which is barely anything. They’re screwed even with Embiid tbh

  3. Pyromania1983

Would Cameroon even have qualified? And Embiid’s been here since high school, lives here in the offseason, and his son is an American citizen. He’s just as American as he is Cameroonian.

  4. KUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUZ

they may not even make it to the olympics. I get why he early commit

  5. Far-Assumption1330

I can’t believe Embiid is even allowed to play for Team USA honestly

  6. Kinge1992

Damn, that’s rough for Cameroon. Wembanyama just straight up sad about it.

  7. owensoundgamedev

Scared of being out played by pascal and Siakam 🤣

  8. MakesYourMise

Embiid about to fall on this kid like a nineties defensive lineman

People really are disparaging an American citizen for having national pride. An American who can attribute his entire wealth & career, and the development in said career to America.

I think he should’ve joined the Cameroon team, but at the same time I’m excited to see him play with team USA.

  11. Yeah I don’t really get it. You spend your entire adult life somewhere, become a legal citizen, build your entire life there, have children and get married. You belong wherever that is.

Nobody can really say anything about that honestly. They’re just mad that its Embiid. Shit I would understand the comments coming the other way more than these. Imagine dipping from a country after your early childhood and popping back up later when you’re nearly 30 representing them like you’re really still from there lol that’s way more weird

Just so everyone knows, Embiid came to America when he was 16. This dude is American through and through. This is some real house wives drama bullshit they’re starting up.

  13. BloodMoney1

Ok Wemby I see you. He want the smoke and I like that.

  14. dat_waffle_boi

This is a dumb “controversy”. He’s American. He’s lived here for a decade+. His son is from here. He lives here. He’s American yall I don’t know what you want

  15. COTEReader

So, a guy who’s lived in the United States for a little over a decade isn’t allowed to play for the United States? I don’t get why people care so much; he’s as American as the rest of us.

  16. PornFilterRefugee

Why are you guys acting like this is a read?

He just said it’s sad for Cameroon, which it is. It’s not even a criticism on Embiid tbh

As someone who knows a lot of immigrants, what Joel did is simply not hard to imagine or relate to.

He’s been here for his entire adult life and nearly half his whole life. He got married here. His kid was born here. Presumably his plan is to be here for good. Who’s to say how Joel should feel about his own identity? Do people not understand immigrants like him struggle with this question regularly? I’m sad to see so much snark about his decision when it’s so much more deeply personal and complex than just a gold medal.
