I don’t think profitability is something Doug is considering. The operation costs alone in scotiabank arena is very expensive. A wnba product might only be viable if it were actually outside of the city… and how much support would that have?
The Canadian market doesn’t mean unanimous nation wide support for a wnba franchise either. The raptors weren’t always popular and it took a good 2 decades to get to the point where the franchise is now. As appealing as a wnba franchise would be in terms of pioneering women’s basketball in Canada further, you can’t assume it will just piggy back off of the raptors fanfare.
