MO BAMBA ABOUT TO DROP A MASTERPIECE, A MO-STERPIECE. This is his time in a few years I truly believe it. Mo will show his dominance once again. Mo Bamba is the final piece to the puzzle, I truly think he is the completion of the process and will emerge as the next AT great Philly center.
2 years ago when Mo was starting for Orlando his stats went under the radar. Most know that he is one of the best 3 pt shooting center in the league. A redditor had put a list on the NBA sub with the top BoXDLebrons and Lebron players. This list showed that 2 years ago Mo was one of the best defensive player in the league. He was top 12 in both LEBRON metrics.
Using NBA.Com player stats for the year 2021 (when Mo was actually a starter and played significant, crucial minutes instead of what he got last season in a tanking season with BB getting majority of Mo’s minutes despite being significantly worse than Mo in every metric), of the NBA players taking 2 or more 3PA per game Mo ranked 5th in 3P% at 36.1% taking on average 4 shots per game. Those ahead of him were Zeke Nnaji, Mike Muscala, KAT, and K Love. Following the list at the time that I cant find, but I found these stats I had written down.
The centers (or those I believe can also flex Center) ahead of Mo (24 years old at the time) defensively using those 2 metrics are Rudy Gobert, Al Horford(36 years old), Draymond (32), Myles Turner(26), Jaren Jackson jr (22), Hassan Whiteside (33), E Mobley (21), Robert Williams 3 (24), Jarret Allen (24), Giannis (27) using D-Lebron (MO would be the 11th best Center using this metric). Using BoxDLebron the new additions ahead of Mo are Kevon Looney (26), Mitchell Robinson (24), Andre Drummond (29), and Bam Adebayo (25) (MO would be around the 13th best center using boxdlebron).
So, both metrics together had put MO Bamba as the 13th best defensive Center at worse (average ranking is the 11th best defensive Center) with higher upside considering his age (room to grow), the fact that some of the other top Centers are decently old and could and did decline, and the fact that MO still has his insane frame and had that breakout after finally getting full season PT and is seemingly staying healthy.
Now lets add the 3pt part again, as mentioned above none of the defensive Centers above had a higher 3P% then Mo. In fact, if I remove the Shots per game limiter all together Mo ranked #16 for Centers in 3P% while shooting a ridiculous 4 3-point attempts per game (ranking Mo at number 10 for 3PA per game) . Jaren Jackson Jr 3PA is 5.1 (ranking him 4th in the league for 3PA per game) with a 3P% of 31.9 (#45) , Myles Turner takes 4.4 shots (8th in 3PA) at 33.3% (#33), Al Horford takes 3.8 shots( #12) at 33.6% (#32), and from there I believe everybody else on the defensive list takes around 1 3PA per game with subpar 3P%.
So finally everything together, Mo was and is by far one of the best shooting Centers in the league (5th in percentage taking at least 2 attempts per game and he is 4th if we raise it to 3 attempts per game) and he is a top 11 defensive Center. None of the other Centers even come close to his dominance on both sides. And he is doing that taking 4 3P shots a game.
I actually could see the argument that he is currently the best 3/D Center in the league after doing this. I can see the case that he reaches the best 3/D Center in the league because he outshines others bigs at making 3’s at a high clip but at worse currently Mo would be the 3th/4th best 3/D center and he is still very young. I dont understand why many people state that Mo is a finished product.
Last season he added a better perimeter defensive game. He was the all around best defender for the Magic again. He was more switchable, more flexible, a reliable interior defender, learnt how to foul less, and showed real rim presence and deterrence plus active hands. Mo’s DFG% were fantastic all around, the Magic were just tanking and bias but he was the clear best player to play the Center and Wendell should have been a forward (his clear best position), Franz and Paolo at the 2/3 respectively which is also their clear best positions. Mo will be a great fit for the Sixers. He is a synergistic fit all around.
I wrote this before but I truly think signing MO Bamba is the greatest move the Sixers could have done in a very long time and possibly in history if everything works out. Its the perfect move. I honestly understand a bit why Morey is hesitant since Mo is the missing and final piece to complete the synergistic and competitive lineup.
Mo is a versatile player, that can switch on multiple positions and has a clear ability to be a defensive player of the year. Mo is has exceptional length, is one of the most athletic bigs in the history of the league, and with his never before seen/gamechanging wingspan he will be an elite rim protector if he has a great POA defender to help him.
He is also a hard worker, every season on Orlando Mo has developed his game. He came into the league a lanky, 3&D player that could barely set screens. He is now a 3 levels weapon, elite lob threat, great cutter, high iq player on both ends, very switchable, had some great numbers guarding bigs and smalls last season. He is adaptable, and is ever evolving his skills to fit the teams needs. Its a commitment to improving his game and expanding his skills that make me sure he will be a future HOF player, and the fact that he is a physical specimen that no other player has matched or succeeded as of yet. All around package on a developing frame and body.
He was always considered one of the most intriguing prospects in his class, I had him right after Trae, and still do (as I believe Trae is actually a top 3 PG in the league right now). In a redraft I may go Trae/Luka (depending on the team), then Mo. I am still very high on him, and I honestly believe Orlando made many mistakes (as they always do with their HOF/ All NBA caliber players). He is on the cusps of something, just need the trust and patience of his teammates and coaching staff, also need touches. Orlando had BB over Mo despite literally every statistic and metric and even eye test proving that Mo was the better fit and better player. Mo was leading the Magic in +/- for a decent portion of last season, he was their best 3pt shooting big for many seasons (despite the team and Wendell trying to lie and say it was BB who probably hit less than 10 3’s last season).
Mo got All time great potential. Moas mentioned many times above is still young, has alot of room to grow and improve, but as a player right now, I see a very high ceiling and floor. He dropped 30+ in 2qs very Embiid once. Embiid was noted saying after that he couldn’t guard Mo. Mo is a top option type of guy, he is unguardable with his size, stroke and flexibility on the roll/pop. He will open up the floor so much for Embiid, and make life easy for Maxxey and Harden. Mo is the perfect for the Sixers. He balances out the composition, Maxey and Harden as ball handling/playmaking scoring guards, Tobias as the guy to bring more scoring versatility, and Mo and Embiid being elite 2 ways that can pass out of the double and heat up very quick. Also Mo is a more deep range specialist while Embiid is a better interior/slash/foul threat. With Mo stretching the floor and needing eyes on him after ever screen in case of the pop, its going to open the middle perfectly for Maxey and Harden, or allow Tobias an easy cut, or corner shot, or allow an easy drop off to Embiid low post.
Its a perfectly synergistic and cohesive lineup. The Sixers are on their ways to a very deep run, and could be a dynasty. And after they establish a strong showing in the East and stop being 1st/2nd round exits, they can move on from Embiid and get a lions haul from him, and move Mo into Embiids previous role. Mo has many years to develop, and developing under Joel Embiid (somebody who previously was his mentor) and continuing getting tested will awaken the guy who was picked #6 in the most loaded draft class in probably 15 years. By the time all is said and done, Mo may be the for sure #1 in a redraft, and I truly wouldn’t doubt it.
Great fucking JJ.
CAME HERE TO SAY I KNOW IT’S PRESEASON BUT FOREVER AND ALWAYS FUCK THE FUCKING CELTICS AND LET’S FUCKING GOOOOOOO SIXERSSSSSSSS
