My friend and I have have been doing some analysis of the upcoming season. Mainly focused on how much teams travel, how much they rest, etc. I’m sure the NBA tries to mitigate schedule factors like this as much as possible, but it’s tough to avoid.
Anyway I’ll cut to the chase: **Cavs will travel fewer miles than any other team this season.**
As you can imagine, east/west coast teams tend to travel more, and midwest teams tend to travel less. The Clippers have the most overall travel. (Strangely quite a bit more than the Lakers, despite being in the same city.)
Overall, this is probably a modest advantage at best. But hey, it’s much better to be the fewest travel miles than the most travel miles.
Here’s the full dataset:
Rank Teams Total Miles
1 Clippers 50,472
2 Kings 46,170
3 T-wolves 45,594
4 Blazers 45,386

6 Heat 43,360

Raptors literally in a different country and they’re at 3rd least lmao
Sheesh how long did it take to run the numbers? Do hope this helps the team cause I feel like we were getting hoed schedule wise the last few seasons
I wonder if that’s actually correct. We have the NBA Paris game this year. Whether it counts as a home game for us or for Brooklyn, I’m guessing this calculation missed it and there’s around 8,000 miles missing that should be on our total. No way are we travelling so efficiently that all the rest of our games only add up to 24K miles or so.
The Central Division always makes up the bottom of this least, and it’s not rare that its either the Cavs or Pacers at 30. They’re just uniquely situated in the geography of the league.
nice OC, thanks for sharing
Smallest cavbon footprint too
