Brian Windhorst says that Tatum’s poor shooting recently might be because he forwent wrist surgery in offseason: “He got 3 or 4 opinions and, to use [Tatum’s] words, ‘Not all of them suggest surgery.’ He said he did what he needed to do and hopes that’s going to be enough.”

Brian Windhorst said that there was a very high chance that Tatum was going to have wrist surgery in the offseason, but chose not to after seeking several opinions from different doctors. The Celtics are also reportedly not worried about the state of his wrist because it’s his non-shooting hand. But Windhorst speculates that Tatum may have forwent a surgery that he needed and is now paying for it with his shooting slump.

[Last night](https://www.espn.com/nba/game/_/gameId/401591874) Jayson Tatum shot 3-13 from the field and 0-4 from three in 27 minutes against the 76ers.

And a few days ago, [this clip](https://streamable.com/ouoq37) of Jayson Tatum missing jumpers in an open gym went viral. Many saying that Tatum “lost his shooting touch” which could be attributed with his injured wrist.

  1. After 1 preseason game he’s in a slump??

  2. Dazzling-Reason-5140

The most likely reason his shooting has been bad was because he gained a shit ton of muscle during the off-season. Probably needs to find his groove, we have enough firepower to be okay

Bro thinks he’s playing in playoff

  4. Breasts_Enjoyer

His pull up 3 sucked last season too right?

Who needs Tatums offense when you have Pritchard

  6. ImTheBestNerd

How long has he needed surgery? 3-4 years?

  7. dbr3000

There’s a real simple solution here: Tatum does the dribbling, Brown does the shooting. Two problems solved!

Is it possible his shooting is streaky because he’s carrying a bigger offensive load so he’s getting tired more quickly I noticed that his 3P shooting percentage has gone slightly down each season his PPG has gone up? Also since he’s gained more muscle apparently his mechanics need to be adjusted?

What exactly is wrist surgery supposed to fix to keep his hand steadier a little I doubt his nerves are damaged? Tatum shouldn’t have surgeons cut him open unless absolutely necessary he doesn’t need to be Stephen Curry while shooting he did just fine being clutch last year against the sixers.

oh man, after 1 preseason game for a sample size. i cant believe he’s going to suck this season!!

  11. Critical-Adhole

Tatum has said before he’s afraid of getting surgery. Looks like that’s starting to become a real issue.

    “Forwent” is a fancy word

The last part is so stupid. There was also a video from the same practice of him making shots after shots but the one of him missing is the one that goes viral

The postseason excuse factory started production early this year

Is this post serious? He’s played 1 preseason game.

Finally the national media is discussing what rational Celtics fans have been acknowledging since the beginning of last season, Tatum’s shooting efficiency has become an incredibly inconsistent part of his game. Sure he has a good shooting game here and there, but that has clearly become the exception not the rule. His jump shot is just an unreliable aspect of his game, which wasn’t always the case.

Its his non shooting hand so probably not.

Kobe had a broken finger in his SHOOTING HAND in 2010 playoffs

    FG: 46% | 3PT%: 37% | FT%: 84% | 29.2 PPG | 6.0 RPG | 5.5 APG | 1.3 SPG | 0.7 BPG

He can dribble with his left. He can bulk up and lift weights with his left, but he can’t use his left to be the guide hand, while he’s shooting? This is the dumbest excuse for his streaky shooting, last year. There’s an annoying group on the Celtics subreddit that always use this as a reason, when he has poor shooting nights. As if, they can’t come to grips with him being really inconsistent. It didn’t stop him from being in the 3 point contest. Can’t be hurting him too much
