> Intae — a ref for nearly 20 years – moved to New Jersey in January 2020 with hopes of being a referee in the U.S.

The ultimate nerd. Refs are needed but also extremely weird people.
Wow refs fans are here.
What’s a ref’s pay like here vs SK?
Super happy for him and proud of the AAPI representation until he makes a bad call against my team then I want him fired
Shocked that he found New Jersey to be better than South Korea. Even the Nets somehow found a better place than NJ in Brooklyn of all places
Super fuckin cool, hard work pays off sometimes
I want to become an nba referee. If my current career plans don’t work out, you bet your ass you’ll see me reffing nba games in 15 years.
big win for us ref fans! been follow this prospect of a minute…. as in the last minute since I saw this post

“THAT WAS THE HWANG CALL!!!!” Just practicing.
The more Asian refs the better
Congratulations to him. I look forward to telling him to go fuck himself and implying he is rigging games in a few short weeks.
Wow that’s a lot of work to pursue his dream. Respect
Aye! Hope he has a great career and enjoys the best seat in the house to watch some basketball
Actual American dream
I will love him until he makes a single bad call against my team
Is this the first ever referee in US sports history that needs an H1-B visa sponsorship? lol
Does he still need to serve in the military?
What an incredible story of dedication and passion!
Congrats to him for achieving his dream! Can’t wait to boo the shit out of this guy when he calls something dumb against my team.
That’s super cool. Don’t let your dreams be dreams or something.
good for him. except for him having to move to new jersey.
Weird this gets a tweet and a Reddit post. Tons of people immigrate to the US to pursue a career and bring their young family with them. It’s not unusual. In fact it’s quite ordinary.
Congratulations to him. The tone of this makes it seem like he is a refugee rather than a dude just immigrating for work, but congrats all the same.
It’d be like saying “The NBA has announced that Victor Wembanyama, who has moved 5,000 miles from France to San Antonio to pursue his basketball career, has been named a member of the Spurs opening night roster for the 2023-24 season.”
Pep: “oh it’s the Korean guy”
I love it when dreams come true.
Starting NBA salary $250,000. Highest paid $550,000.
Disgraced referee Eric Lewis was making $500,000 per year. He was probably a millionaire many times over. I hate to bring that topic back up but nobody is ‘voluntarily retiring’ making that type of money.

Don’t fuck it up
