    makes me remember when GMs voted KAT as the answer to this same(?) question years ago

  2. lakers082433

    Victor over Giannis and Luka is crazy to me lol

  3. They also took KAT over everyone else in 2015 so it’s showing that GM’s get caught up with upside over proven production just like the rest of us

  4. WrongMomo

    Wow wemby not playing one official game and being over giannis and luka is insane

  5. AdulasMoonblade

    Here’s the results for the last 3 years

    **2021**

    1. Luka Doncic, Dallas – 43%

    2. Giannis Antetokounmpo, Milwaukee – 40%

    > Also receiving votes: Anthony Davis, L.A. Lakers; Kevin Durant, Brooklyn; LeBron James, L.A. Lakers; Nikola Jokic, Denver; Zion Williamson, New Orleans

    **2020**

    T-1. Giannis Antetokounmpo, Milwaukee – 43%

    T-1. Luka Doncic, Dallas – 43%

    3. Anthony Davis, L.A. Lakers – 7%

    > Also receiving votes: LeBron James, L.A. Lakers; Zion Williamson, New Orleans

    Jokic went from 0 votes last year to receiving the most this year. Safe to say GMs aren’t immune to recency bias…

  6. 0dias_Chrysalis

    The one where Giannis finally doesn’t lead by like 40+% gets posted smh

  7. snowwwaves

    I imagine in addition to his current and projected skills, they are factoring in how much cheaper Wembanyama is and will be for some time. He likely has a lot more years left as well, whereas Giannis could reasonably be expected to start his decline in 3-5 years.

  8. WanAjin

    I hope these aren’t actual GMs, some of the polls are absolute insanity.

  9. n0th1ng10

    This is ridiculous. But these nba gms don’t know anything, last year they had Giannis and Luka as 55 and 45 of the vote. They didn’t have Jokic in any percentage. Leaving Tatum off when he’s lead his team on deep runs almost every year is hilarious.

  10. HamlnHand

    Wow this is lower than I’ve ever seen Luka on this type of list

  11. Taapacoyne5

    If Wemby is #2, I would have Chet top 5 as well. He’s gonna be special.

  12. seceipseseer

    Ok, hype is for nba fans. These are professionals at the highest level (just like the players themselves). They have teams of scouting. Ever think maybe they know what they are talking about? Of course right now, luka and Giannis are better than Vic, but he’s 19 and on a rookie contract for the next 4 years and has insane potential.

  13. MemoryLaps

    Not that I agree with it, but I think a big part has to do with the specifics of the question, specifically that they are talking about signing a guy to *start* a franchise. Even with Giannis, I think it would be hard for a new franchise to seriously win a title in their first few seasons.

    If you aren’t winning a title early, then Giannis may have aged out of his prime (but still have a massive cap hit) by the time you are really hitting your title window. Wemby is pretty much the exact opposite of that ***if you believe he is an elite, all-time, can’t-miss prospect*** similar to an AD, LeBron, Duncan, etc.

    Of course, that doesn’t explain why Jokic is rated so much higher than Giannis despite being the same age, or why Luka’s age (24) isn’t giving him a better bump.

  14. OnECenTX

    * joker 28yo
    * wemby 19yo
    * freak 28yo
    * luka 24yo
    * antman 22yo

    i understand wemby’s placement but the gap between joker and giannis is surprising. i guess it would be easier building a team around joker, just get a bunch of shooters surrounding him that can play some d.

  15. Solid-Confidence-966

    Where’s Tatum? Outside of wining a ring and an MVP he’s done just about everything you could ask out of your franchise guy and he’s still pretty young.

  16. Throwawayidiot1210

    Ant is becoming overrated. Any gm that would take him over Luka is an idiot

  17. capitalistsanta

    23% of NBA GMs are dumb and one is the Spurs GM lol. Although tbh I get it. He’s seriously an unreal athlete and for a 19 year old I have been consistently impressed with what comes out of his mouth. Wise beyond his years and he notices the little details of basketball and coaching and training. I’m a trainer and I follow sports from a training perspective and you can see he knows what he’s doing and he’s around very smart coaches. He’s not just jumping under weights trying to get stronger, his approach is very modern. And tbh teams and players won’t say this publicly, but I’m 99% sure that a lot of the problems you see with rookies from day 1, guys like Embiid and Zion, are due to training errors made by stupid coaches years ago who didn’t know shit about training basketball athetes for strength and endurance.

  18. issofine

    I get Wemby is a freak athlete, but let’s let him play some games before we go crowning him king

  19. JeffTeagueNo1Enemy

    Tatum not being on there is insane

  20. Eli-Had-A-Book-

    Still surprised how Zion seems to be out of the picture.

    I feel like no college athlete was talked about as much as him since Tim Tebow (and even Zion didn’t get to that level).

    60% from the field so far as a perimeter player is still damn impressive.

  21. If I’m getting the next 8 years guaranteed (like if they where a rookie), please give me Tatum from the ages of 25 to 33 over Wemby. I get the upside, but it doesn’t really compensate the floor difference.

  22. Veggiedelite90

    A lot of this is just an age thing. If you’re a Gm Victor buys you time. These other guys you have to be winning now except maybe ant. You have a few years here to figure it out. That said he’s got two way potential that’s very rare. As a spurs fan I feel very lucky

  23. elxhapo

    The wemby glazing is crazy the man ain’t even got to his first allstar break yet

  24. LoganH1219

    Shai deserves a mention, I feel like.

  25. Eacheremeant1978

    Wemby? Really? I mean, he’s good and all but over Giannis and Luka? Come on now. GMs must be seeing something we’re not.

  26. Sherrodactyl

    Taking anyone over Jokic, Giannis, Edwards does not make a lot of sense to me

  27. Troll-e-poll-e-o-lee

    Why is the picture in the thumbnail of Tatum though lol

  28. wawawalkinstreet

    if this is real then 23% of GMs are dumb as shit. I’m not saying wemby cant be a beast but the risk reward is just not there to justify not taking one of the MVP lvl players.

  29. LyonsKing12

    Vic has had so much hype and anti-hype you kind of forget he’s a fucking unicorn with more potential than pretty much any player in history.

  30. Jamdock

    Lol nuts. I get the Giannis age argument (but still), but Luka? I’m so glad we got this kid, but Luka had a better predraft resume and has delivered on his promise and is still super young.

  31. RVAIsTheGreatest

    Wemby deserves it. He genuinely does because of the potential he has to be truly insane and the idea that these GM’s likely feel their team would and could get the most out of him.

  32. Emera1dthumb

    Makes me think I would only hire 33% of the league

  33. Drag0nborn1234

    I may be bias but taking victor over Giannis and Luka is straight up griefing. But I guess this explains why there are franchises that never won a ring if there’s GMs thinking like that.

  34. hot-sauce-950

    How is Steph getting votes. He’s 36 haha

  35. thatsagoodshot

    Everyone talking about the Wemby pick, but can we talk for a moment about the fact that a GM picked 35 year old 6’2″ Steph Curry to START a franchise???

  36. The_Lonely_Boner

    He definitely has his flaws but Anthony Edwards over Tatum is pretty ridiculous. Obviously Wemby is too high as well but only because of his injury risk imo.

  37. pm_me_cheesy_bread

    Who the hell chose Ant? Over Steph??
