Lakers-Nets Reaction: LeBron James not slowing down, Ben Simmons bounce-back year? | Hoops Tonight

Jason Timpf breaks down the Los Angeles Lakers preseason game against the Brooklyn Nets last night where LeBron James saw his first action of the 2023-24 season and he didn’t miss a beat. Ben Simmons also returned to the floor for the Brooklyn Nets last night and looked like his old self from a few years ago. Looking athletic and healthy again, this could be a bounce-back year for Simmons.

  1. Just like the Suns winning over Detroit. Everybody knew Detroit wasn't winning. Just like everybody knows the nets wasn't going to win over the Laker but still held their own & made it damn close. Nobody knows what this season will bring because the West is stacked. So stop praising teams in the preseason, wait until the real season begins.

  2. Mailbag question – "Why is it that coaches seem to be the scapegoats that get fired when a team fails to meet up to their expectations? I understand you can't fire the players (who are under contract), but obviously a team's failures typically spread far and wide beyond just the coach. Why do front offices often target the team's head coach as the sacrificial lamb everytime a team's season goes poorly?"

  3. I think people got way to low on Simmons and felt he was clearly injured and it was really bothering him. I think this year will be a major return to form for him, and that people are actually underrating the Nets because they don't realize how good he is going to be, and how good Brooklyn will be defensively this year.

  4. Jason I think early in the year teams will defend the Lakers this way, they want to see if the Lakers will be consistent.

  5. I’m listening not only for preseason but for Basketball knowledge.
Both him & Tim legler are poetry teachers when it comes to ball talks.

  6. This Laker team is so damn deep! It may take a minute for them to figure things out…. Definitely see a championship contender. 🙏🏼 🏆

  7. Jason there are no bad teams in the West, None, every team will be improved and the Lakers cannot sustain themselves over the course of a game without A D and Lebron.

  8. All the Suns fans who cried and whined about them being #5 and said "Jason is so biased towards the Lakers, he's going to put them #1" are looking really foolish right now.

  9. LAL will shore up point of attack defense when they trade DLo for Caruso in JAN. Strong defense is more reliable than shooting and Caruso is a +- GOD next to LBJ and AD

  10. DLo goes to either Chicago or Atlanta in January. Lakers will get either Caruso or Dejounte Murray. Take it to the bank.

  11. I totally disagree with the Celtics running away with the conference. I think the only way the Bucks don't convincingly finish the year as the 1 seed is if Dame and Giannis miss games at the same time. As long as at least one of them is on the court and the rest of the roster isn't injury ridden they're going to win at least 60 games if not more.

  12. I think should take into consideration bringing DLo off the bench and starting Gabe Vincent to keep the balance of shot making from the starters to the bench unit

  13. Lebron still looking like that in year 21 is fucking wild. An actual 1 of 1. Maybe some players will be better but no one will have the durability and consistency year after year.

  14. Imagine if they held onto caruso, great perimeter defender that can shoot the 3

  15. Kinda disagree on the Hayes Wood thing my only thing I would say Wood fits better cuz at the end of the game you need a bucket and if you throw it to Hayes he's going to hand off screen roll till basket but with Wood throw him the ball he gone score

  16. Honestly you should have just called this a Lakers video because you touched on the Brooklyn nets as if it was a piece of nothing

  17. Particularly appreciated the depth of analysis of two way playing style breakdowns within each position and how that effects rotation and defensive strategy
