I’m big on “you gotta take ‘em to make ‘em”

  2. suhar97

All for it, didn’t frank once say he wanted AD taking 5 a game?

  3. Siltysand1

He’s bailing out the defense every time he takes a 3 . 6 is far too many .

  4. discussionandrespect

6 is way too much, I want more like 3

How about get in the paint more. He forces a lot of his threes and there is no damn reason he should be standing on the 3 point line

AD played in the post almost exclusively last season, and while he was very productive, the offense was also very predictable and stagnant at times. It was a struggle for him sometimes to score consistently vs constant double teams, which is why we saw his scoring fluctuating every other game during the playoffs (when teams lock in strategically). He has a deep bag, just about knowing which tool to use versus the defense. Limiting such a versatile player like AD doesn’t do him any favors, and it definitely doesn’t dimensionalize our offense. On the contrary, AD being a threat from 3, unlocks our offense, opens the lane for our other guys, while simultaneously allowing AD to pick his poison against his defender.

AD with the Pelicans and 2020 with the Lakers was a versatile player. He could play the 4 or 5, and he was a threat anywhere on the floor, especially if he caught a good rhythm. Encouraging him to take 3s will allow him to gain confidence, prepare him for matchups that he can’t dominate exclusively in the paint (Jokic, or bigger stronger centers), and allow him to load manage in games by not needing to bang down low every offensive posession.

Most importantly, our transition defense should be better due to AD not needing to sprint back from the opposite rim after scoring, or falling down on an attempt near the hoop.

Does anyone know what happened to AD’s jumper? Dude used to be automatic from midrange and solid from 3, now he just flat out refuses to take those shots.

  8. Chipdouglas0007

That’s cool, but teams gonna leave him wide open and he will go on a cold stretch …then he will stop.

  9. Wolfpackpapi1

I don’t care where his points come from just want him to dominate

  10. DragonsGetHigh

Look if he can hit 2/6 and 3/6 like that every 2 games they *gotta* come out and guard him, it’s a good move.

I don’t like setting a quota. Then you start forcing. I like the idea of just having a green light. When you’re open shoot it and don’t hesitate. That said, if that percentage stays in the low 20s after however many games, I’d tell him to take that one dribble into a middy and hit that, which we know he can do.

I think the thinking here is that if you tell him to take 6, he’ll take 3-4 maybe even 5 every once in a while. He’ll shoot them more and with confidence based on what we’ve seen so far in pre season. If he starts making those at 33-35% – watch the F out

Imagine the problems this would cause for other teams if he could knock down 2.5 a game

May too many. I’m good with a few attempts but not 6

  15. Transluminal_light

Beware of making fixed proclamations on shot attempts. Just shoot when open or the clock is winding down. Ham pressured Beasley to shoot 3s and he took a lot of bad ones.

My thoughts are never to let another Lakers player train with Lethal Shooter

  17. EaglesXLakers

That’s not his game and it shouldn’t be his game.

  18. Ill_Celery_7654

If he can at least make 2 per game then I think that’s pretty solid. Taking 6 might be a bit excessive, but somewhere around 4 per game should be realistic. He’s such a force around the rim though so I’m not sure he’ll do it.

I don’t know if he should be taking 6 a game. Start out with 3 and if the jumper stays steady he should gradually raise his shot attempts
