Keyonte played solid, he’s a future All Star

I feel like Collin might be the loser of the Hunger Games, and might be traded, if Keyonte becomes a good player. Keyonte stays because he’s a rookie, Clarkson because he’s a vet on a good contract, THT, because he’s Talented Horton Tucker

Omer has been playing solid in the preseason also, so that was a good signing

This game really showed how important guys like KO and Ochai are to the Jazz. They are the connective tissue that really makes lineups flow better. That THT-George-Ochai-KO-Omer lineup looked better than any lineup for the jazz the entire night.

Lol resale tickets for saturdays game litterally dropped to a $1.

Based off 2 pre season games the lineup should be Dunn, Clarkson, Lauri, KO, Walker, Keyonte (maybe biased), THT, Ochai, John, Omer

Taylor, Brice, and others might get into the lineup, as I can see KO, and THT being traded by the deadline for a lottery protected first, or seconds

My main takeaway is that the guard play to start the season is gonna oscillate between frustrating and fun at an alarming rate.

    GAME NOTES:

Sloppy sloppy game. 7 turnovers in teh first quarter, with lots of missed 3’s.

Clarkson was the main culprit of turnovers, having 4 turnovers to just 3 assists. Poor shooting night outside of like a 45 second stretch in the second where he scored 8 straight using back-to-back 3’s. 12 points 5 rebounds 3 assists.

Kessler looked like he was outplayed tonight, especially compared to last night. He was a non factor on defense and offense, just 3 points 4 rebounds in 17 minutes.

I’m really confused on the gameplan Hardy has for John Collins. Although we traded nothing for him, it’s weird to have a player of his caliber sit in the corner. 3 points, 5 rebounds, 1-6, 1-3 from 3. Maybe we need to stagger his minutes with Lauri? The length is nice but it just hasn’t impressed me so far. Yes, it’s preseason, but I want to see more than him just posted in the corner. I want to see more pick n roll action with him having room to roll and playmake.

Lauri was great, of course. 16 points, 6-12 shooting, 1-5 from 3. 8 rebounds as well. 23 minutes tonight, but I do think he is looking to score more than he did last year. He looks a lot more aggressive in finding his shot.

I’m ready to get off of the THT ride. Again, just preseason, but his stepback 3 that he does like twice a game is the worst basketball move I think I’ve ever seen. He did lead us in scoring with 24 points, 9-18, 2-7 from 3. 7 assists to just 2 turnovers. He did have a really pretty and-1 layup where he twisted his body in mid air and flicked it behind his head a la Michael Jordan. He had a great second half with 22 of his 24 points coming in the second half, but his play just doesn’t look pretty.

Sexton still doesn’t look good in this offense so far. 5 points, 1-5, 1-2 from 3, and no assists in 17 minutes of play. I don’t know what’s causing this regression (again, I know it is just preseason), but I want to see more from him if he is going to be a starter.

Olynyk was great, hitting a flurry of off-balance shots. Real Maple Bird over here. 3-5, 8 points, 4 assists, 3 rebounds, 1 steal, 1 block. I think that he is going to be a solid 6 man tonight, and be our main backup PF.

Keyonte George continues to impress me man. 3-7, 1-4 from 3, 10 points 5 assists 2 steals in 22 minutes. He just looks so good out there and he makes it look like he belongs out there, which is incredible for a rookie. He works really well next to Kris Dunn, I enjoy their chemistry and vibe with that backcourt.

Dunn wasn’t looking to attack as much this game, 2-3 shooting with 4 points, 1 reb, 1 assist, 1 steal, but he vibes with Keyonte so much.

Luka Magic cooled off, 0-7 shooting with all his minutes coming in the 4th.

Hendricks played the last 5 minutes of the game, and did nothing but get 2 fouls and 1 rebound. Disappointing.

Agbaji continues to look improved on the dribble penetrations, but that’s it. I still want to see him look for more assist opportunities. 0 assists in 17 minutes. He tried to thread the needle a few times, but they were bad passes that were easily stolen. But, with him on the floor the lineup just seemed to gel seamlessly which was refreshing after watching the THT – Clarkson – Fontecchio – Olynyk – Kessler show.

Omer Yurtseven has surprised me, I thought he was going to be a 3rd stringer, but I could see him being our backup C, with Kelly at backup PF. He’s such a strong, big body down there that surprises me.

Still no Brice Sensabaugh……….. I just want to see him play so I know what he’s like.

Random thoughts, but through 2 preseason games I’m worried about what the Jazz are trying to do. On paper, we have a deep team, almost too deep, but then in practice it’s a logjam of odd player combinations. Like I said before, I think that Collins – Markkanen – Kessler doesn’t work. It delegates Collins to strictly being a corner sitter which sucks. As for our guard lineup, I don’t ever want to see two of Sexton, Clarkson, THT on the floor at the same time. It creates such clunky, selfish basketball that brings a lot of turnovers.

It wouldn’t surprise me if we make a head scratching trade midseason (or two). Something like Sexton for a pick, or Clarkson for a pick. While I love both of those players, I don’t see realistically how they can fit in our offense without stifling development of younger guys. Again, just my thoughts, but the front office has a real conundrum on their hands, and a poorly constructed roster. Why draft a long, tall F at #9 and proceed to not use him at all in any sets? He gets the Collins treatment when he is in (so far) by just sitting in the corner.

Just some random rants and thoughts. What did you guys catch from tonight’s game?

    1-1 in the preseason bitches.

Dunn is still my favorite to emerge as the starting point guard to begin the year and I was impressed with how he played with increased minutes tonight. THT turned it on in the 2nd half and looked like a completely different player. Wild.

Not feeling Sexton in the lineup, but honestly if his role is just to get buckets off the bench I’m all for it. I’m seeing Keyonte have these flashes of eye-popping talent and athleticism, but I can tell he’s not as confident and being a little passive. He won’t be able to shoot the shots he was able to get in SL, but the ability to create for himself and others is definitely there.

Hendricks only getting 4 minutes of play sucks – but it’s clear he’s trying to grasp the system. This is only his 2nd NBA game action ever, but seeing how he was out-of-position a couple times and didn’t really relocate to different spots on offense showed me he’s just not ready yet.

It seems that whichever guard keyonte ends up playing with, plays WAY better with him than with any other pairing

  9. It’s really frustrating that we have guards who have no idea how to get the ball to Lauri, John, and Walker.

If Colin ends up starting in the regular season, I will very much begin to question Will Hardy.

Danny work your magic. Trade THT while his stock is high.

Keyonte & Dunn continue to be the most in control guards on the roster. I really want to see these two have some run with our starting frontcourt.

Keyonte noticeably had made other players around him better, I want him to start being more aggressive though. And he actually played pretty solid defense tonight.

The Simone experiment needs to end immediately. And Luka is getting close to this point too.

Not playing Brice at all yet is kinda wild imo.
