  1. There are many tall ball handlers nowadays and it’s interesting to watch them play and see how they function on the court. I was watching Josh Giddey, Amen Thompson, guys like Ben Simmons. I’d say Josh Giddey plays like a point guard. He has that calm, rhythm based play style, uses the screen and navigate through the pick and roll. Guys like Simmons, or Scottie, are more often the screener themselves, and are involved in more dribble handoffs. They sometimes also handles the ball but it’s more often during the fast break, or an offensive set which they are doing the ISO. Scottie right now doesn’t play like a point guard.

Darko has been clear saying that 1-4 are interchangeable in their offence. Everyone needs to be able to make reads once the ball is in their hands and do it quickly. This is great for our starting lineup which has 3 guys that have offensive initiator skills in Schroder, Pascal and Scottie.

This video shows how useful Scottie is as a PG, but focuses on the main limitation being his inability to consistently create an advantage out of the PnR. Well it looks like his handle has tightened up significantly, and with that he’ll be able to more consistently create those advantages. He doesn’t need Kyrie’s handle to create advantages, at his size, with his strength, he only needs a tight enough handle to utilize that strength against his defender. If he’s really taken a step as a ball-handler then get ready for a breakout Scottie season.

How does this analysis compare to the same analysis Doug Smith and Grange must have conducted?
