MT at his absolute best telling the story of Chris Paul and Reg from San Quentin’s bones battle at the team’s annual San Quentin trip

[This](https://theathletic.com/4932493/2023/10/12/chris-paul-warriors-san-quentin/?source=user_shared_article) is from Marcus Thompson’s latest piece on the Warriors’ trip to San Quentin. I genuinely hate that it’s (presumably; I’m a subscriber so I can’t tell for sure but given pretty much everything from The Athletic is, I’m assuming this is too) paywalled because this long form piece is some of MT’s finest. He weaves this multi-game bones battle between CP and Reg throughout the article that’s equal parts a character examination of CP and why he fits in with the squad as a result & the importance and promise of San Quentin’s evolution into a potential model for a reformed carceral system centered around restorative justice and not punishment, ie this is just a small part of the article, believe it or not because it’s so long; I actually have 8 more screenshots of other excerpts that I wanted to also include lol but pared it down to just the bones showdown to make sure I stayed honoring the rules. All that to say, if you’re not a subscriber to the Athletic, this MT piece is well worth signing up for a free trial, or a one month subscription if you’ve already used your trial, it’s that good.
