Obi Toppin and Bennedict Mathurin with Starting 5 on Day 1 of Pacers Training Camp!

Alex Golden and Mike Facci discuss Pacers Media Day and what the team focused on Day 1 of Training Camp. The guys also share their thoughts on what Rick Carlisle had to say about the defense on Day 1, what Myles Turner saw differently from last year to this year and what Bruce Brown brings this season that the team lacked last year.

  1. The Pacer's defense has always been; be aggressive outside and force drives into the bigs underneath. Dale and Antonio Davis used to clean up inside. Then Hibbert was the guy. Now it's Turner. The motto has always been to force the drive where we want it, not to prevent it and take fouls. Hopefully the new approach pays off. We have great depth to help when foul trouble hits, because it's definitely going to be a problem until there's individual progression on-ball defensively.

  2. I'm sure Hield will be much easier to trade and have value. If he is to take less money and accept a lesser role. It's not only the Pacers that view him this way. That's what he needs to realize. He's a great player, offensively and has some other underrated skills. At first before the trade talk I was sorta excited in hoping to see him be in a 6th man role. Because he could still get great minutes, while being his most affective imo. While also providing us some great spacing with a high % 3pt shot. With amazing transition basketball, with a much improved defense around his shooting. I was bummed to hear him be so out on a lil less of a contract and role. It's not a knock on him, it's simply the direction of his career at this point. While I still would at time's give him the knod to start game's. I value Buddy on the right usage.

However, maybe once the extension happens and the season starts. The suitors will begin to pour in. Especially if they see even more improvement from him, or if he's even more affective in another 6th man type of role.

  3. Call me crazy, but is it not far off to believe that the Pacers could get Terrance Mann and Robert Covington for Hield/Jackson 2024 1st of like 4 other team's and a 2nd. Lol Or Mann/Morris/Boston Jr. for Hield/McConnell/Nwora .. Morris slipped last year. Still maybe better than Covington.. They both old, I almost want a pick in that, but they're better defensively. Despite the offense and Morris could have a better year this season.. Could even trade him to a contender later too.. The real player we could use is Mann for his D, Hield obviously a much better offensive player. Clips need the shooting and have plenty wings.. Mann a better all around player and young. Brandon Boston Jr. could also become a decent asset down the road. I'd love to see him play alongside Hali and Nembhard. Learn from them and Wong too.. He has some size and talent. That 2024 pick we picked up is worth tossing in a trade for a decent young player. With the way next year's draft will be. Clips could definitely use McConnell, they have no backup PG and only Russ. He'd be huge alone for them. There are a combination of player's here that could make a trade happen for one of their Wings and SG/SF/Combo Guard in Mann. We also have Theis and if they're even somewhat healthy this year. That 17 points from Hield, PG general from McConnell, a Jackson, Nwora scoring or Theis could make this happen.. I know the Clippers value Mann. I would too, but I'd push a few players and possibly a couple picks for him. He's worth it imo. Very versatile, like a Brown but even better for his age. A veteran wing would be nice and a younger replacement underrated guard in BBJr. for McConnell could be awesome. I watched him play during the summer 1on1 vs Tyrese Maxey a couple year's ago and he got the best of him a few time's. Maxey has just had the most opportunity to shine. Brandon being on that veteran team hasn't gotten the minutes. Needed a little more time, but he's a good backup point. I'd be sorta hesitant to trade Nwora, because he's a microwave type scorer and I want to see if he's improving his D this year. So I'd hold off on him, I'm definitely not trading Nesmith.. He's totally off the table for me.. No way. I want to see Smith at least one more year before I make a decision on him.. I'm fine with letting go of Jackson, Heild for a (somewhat equal player nothing less).. Theis and McConnell at some point. Even though I'd hate to see TJ leave, it would only be to make the trade happen. Theis I'd like to see play with our team a bit this season. Yet I'm totally fine moving him for a younger player. Then with having some bigger PFs, we could probably go stretch small ball type. With a bigger vet PF like a Morris, or a Covington who's played C before and been successful as a backup could be awesome for our scoring and transition play/Defense. Our type of game should even bring out the best version of those older vet's. Giving them many open good looks. The rebounding could come easy from quicker, more hustle player's. Still with Turner, then Obi, Brown, Nesmith, then you'd have Morris or Covington with Walker, Smith and possibly Nwora. Nembhard could become a shoot first PG(is anyways), Nesmith be in his natural position of SG/SF. Could come screens for 3s.. Become a more defensive minded transition team with the 3 ball and drives, kicks.. Mathurin, Mann and Brown would be amazing with Tyrese, Obi and Turner.. We'd be lowkey dangerous with our style of play with these additions. Catching many team's off guard with our all around defensive/stretch/drive and 3, 2 way play at all positions. Crazy lol..

  4. Do you see isaih jackson evolving his shot? Or his scoring abilities. I know he can jump out the gym but i hope he learns to play with finesse when needed

  5. Do you guys think Oscar could have a shot in a year or two at the back up big? I think he looked good in summer leauge.
