  1. When the Trade was made, I knew nothing about Toumani. Now I know that Toumani is everything.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Toumani Buckets was starting at the three by the end of the year. He’s a straight up Dawg.

Also Anfernee looking mad impressive. Better defense, better finishing, and still got one of the best threes in the league.

Y’all as stoked for this season as I am?

My takeaways (since people on the last thread wanted me to keep doing them)

    The positives:

    * Everyone loves an Anferno night. Love it. Not much more to be said here lol. He looks like he’s a bit stronger on defense as well, he walled off THT and forced kickouts multiple times and stopped a Markannen postup. Good to see.
    * Scoot didn’t have a great shooting night but I still thought he looked poised and his decision making was good overall. None of the shot attempts were forced, they were all the right shot but just didn’t fall (which will probably happen a lot this season). I was impressed with his court vision and how he never seems to get sped up or out of control.
    * Camara has gamebreaking potential on defense. He’s long, has great timing in the passing lanes, covers a TON of ground on closeouts and just vacuums up loose balls. But I think the most surprising thing about him is how well he can move his feet and contain smaller guards (staying in front of Collin Sexton is pretty hard to do as a big). And he was guarding Kessler for stretches – being so versatile on defense as a rookie is really rare and you love to see it.
    * I like Jabari’s hustle. It’s great to see, and he has an uncanny ability to be wherever the ball is.
    * Sharpe’s handle is a bit loose but I love him being used as a PnR ball handler more in this game. I really wanna see what he looks like in a little bit of a creation role as opposed to exclusively being a play finisher. Even a few times a quarter I think it would be good for him.
    * Grant looked really bad in the first half but I thought he was much more decisive in the second half in how he attacked the basket. Less mid post ISO and more north-south movement towards the rim. It’s definitely going to be an adjustment for him, going from playing with Dame and now this.

    The negatives:

    * Grant has always been a bit of a ballstopper but it’s so much more noticeable without Dame orchestrating everything in our halfcourt offense. We also went to a Grant direct postup out of a timeout and I just hate that as a primary option in any given possession, and it seems like getting grant involved in the mid-post is a priority for Chauncey and one that I really don’t like. Like I said earlier, he’s going to have a huge adjustment to make in how he gets his points this year.
    * This zone defense is awful. It’s not confusing anyone and it just gets eaten up pretty much every time we run it. There was one possession in the second quarter where the Jazz had 5 shooters on the court and Chauncey STILL called for the zone and surprise surprise it resulted in a completely uncontested shot. I know it’s the preseason and we aren’t trying to win per se, but yikes. Just yikes.
    * The man defense is also awful but that’s to be expected with a team this young. Still though, it’s gonna be really hard to play as fast and transition-heavy as Chauncey likes if we are constantly taking the ball out from under the basket.
    * Moses Brown didn’t look like a rotation player at all today. He gets blocks here and there but it feels like he’s perpetually out of position defensively. It’s like watching a lower IQ Hassan Whiteside play defense where he’s perpetually in the paint, yet somehow always out of position.
    * Jabari is going to have a hard time cracking an NBA rotation if he doesn’t figure out his shot. 2 wide open airballs today after shooting 28% last season. Woof.

  4. bigboicarrots-

really excited about Toumani, his potential is crazy.

  5. Bieberkinz

I would like to thank the single Suns fan for telling us he could be like Mikal after the trade.

This game was so entertaining at the end that you almost forgot the Jazz shot 45 free throws

  6. Krustykrab8

The jazz took 44 free throws and won by 5 haha. Also Camara is the truth and should have leapfrogged both murray and jabari with this game

  7. Handcuffed

was this the game on local tv or is it the next one?

  8. Own-Fish-7634

Why at the end we started playing selfish? Especially jabari and mays pass the ball for god sake

  9. Pretty telling that neither Brown or Reath played late in the game. Haven’t really been impressed with either. I’d like to see Conditt or Badji next game.

Camara should be in the rotation from day one, just a solid all around player that’s ready to play.

  10. beatrailblazer

he’s gonna have Toumani rings by the end of his career

  11. GaviFromThePod

Scoot Shae Toumani everyone will crumble at the knees of our greatness

  12. ToughMatch4803

So many soft calls to the Jazz since the beginning of the game…other than that super entertaining. Make Toumani a starter so I could cop that sweet 33 jersey

  13. SupremeNBA

So with Billups contract being for 5 years and the last year being a team option, we will most likely see him removed in a year or two, so enjoy the tank for now and then once we draft high a few times bring in a more successful head coach. I see no way that we are cutting him at 2 million a year even though it doesn’t count against the cap. We are at least stuck with him for this season

  14. Go full youth. Trade Grant and Thybulle imo for more picks. Moar.

  15. ElectronicArea

Do the coaches not watch film or look at analytics? Anyone can see this zone shit doesn’t work. We probably give up a dunk or wide open 3 more than 50% of the time we run this shit and theres a 2 year sample size of Chauncey running this. Like man theres a reason no one runs zone in the NBA.
