I’m a Spurs fan for life, and I COULD NOT be more excited for Wemby…but also he’s still only played 2 preseason games. I can tell you 100% that we’re (the Spurs) playing the long and slow game. We’re looking to entrench a winning culture around a core group for the next 10-15 years. It’s gonna be a slow build, then it’ll be just unending dominance. That’s what we want.
I love Chuck – I just think these guys who have been there and seen it all will never buy the hype until someone Proves it to them. And I think they’ve earned that right.
Luckily for us, Wemby isn’t full of himself – he knows he hasn’t done anything yet and has along way to go. He’s the perfect Spur 😍

Also, I should add – the Spurs organization and the culture won’t let him get a big head. They will chop him down to life. But in the long term that will make him Great. We don’t tolerate big egos over here. And Wemby & the Spurs are a perfect match.

for me charles barkley is right. Wemby and the NBA will need some time to adjust for sure. But Luka is the player that prove that the NBA was not harder than overseas. Luka was already good is first year as a rookie. Even him state that he was easier to score in the NBA rather that Europe.
The city buzzin. Go spurs go ! I remember just a few yrs ago talking to the homies about the good ol days with Duncan and how we would never get another player even close to Duncan and here we are now! At the time I had never even heard of Wemby. Few yrs later… the city is buzzin !

I think Magic Johnson already called this kid the best basketball player in the world. He might follow in the footsteps of Wilt Chamberlain and Wes Unseld and win MVP his rookie season but if not he'll probably finish in the top 3 or 4.

So I watch the highlight of Wemby's 2 pre-season games, I notice he did not score a single point by post-up game. That is very alarming weakness for a center.

Look, there’s no doubt he has the skills, but will his body hold up? Ralph Sampson had the same body type, and the hype was off the charts, and what happened? We have to be careful of the high expectations thrust upon these yo7ng men….the pressure will cause them to tense up…make mistakes…get inured, possibly beyond repair…and then what? The same ones hyping them up will talk about how much of a failure and waste of time he is.
American NBA players and fans are STILL underestimating European ball players, even after seeing Drazen Petrovic, Dirk Nowitzki and even recently Luca Doncic among a dozen other star European talent. And guess what? There are more like them currently in Europe. Go look at Spain's Aday Mara, 7'4" 250lb 18 year old kid who recently signed with UCLA. He's like a more athletic version of Jokic.
Well …..the odds of Wemby winning more championships than Charles Barkley are very.. very good….since Barkley doesn't have any
