Jason Timpf wraps up his ranking of the top 20 teams in the NBA heading into the 2023-24 season with No. 1, the Denver Nuggets. After winning the NBA Finals, there’s no doubt that the Nuggets are the best team in the league heading into the 2023-24 season behind two time MVP Nikola Jokic and Jamal Murray.

Hey Jason, (thanks for answering my last mailbag question, my question this time what’s the ceiling for Austin Reaves he’s clearly taken a leap the last couple of years and you always mention how young players can go up and down with their play and leads me to wonder the potential for Reaves ?
The Nuggets won comfortably even though MPJ didn’t shoot well in the finals. He will be back to his 42% career 3pt shooting average in game 1. Braun will make significant strides. Strawther is a riser. If Reggie Jackson is a fighter and gets back to just his 2021 form the Nuggets have IMPROVED.
Julian Strawther is looking like a monster so far, doesn't look like a rookie at all.
MAILBAG QUESTION: If Kevin Durant wins a championship this year along with finals mvp, how are we talking about his career differently?
The truth is nobody in the east is good enough to beat the Heat. Until that happens, I don't wanna hear talk about how the Nuggets didn't face a "good team" aka Milwaukee, Boston, Philadelphia.
🧢 title
We'll see how the Nuggets deal with championship hangover
They beat an 8th seed, a broken 4th seed, a 7th seed and an 8th seed. Yeah no one is scared of this team 100%
Swipa from park hill I no he real
Mailbag question: how likely do you think dame and giannis will win a chip together?
2) what moves should the heat make this year to stay in "contention?"
3) who do you want to see play with wemby in the next year or two?
Mailbag: You mentioned in the Bucks video that they were team that were honest with themselves about their weaknesses and then made a move – are there any other teams in the league that need to do that and make a trade? I know you’ve mentioned the Cavs but anyone else?
Joker is the best player you have ever seen no matter how old you are and you no it
The GSW is gonna get this one again this year and I'm so sorry for all the other teams.
While Wembanyama will probably win Rookie of the Year, Strawther probably won't be very far behind, and Hunter Tyson might evolve into a solid bench player. I thought that the Nuggets didn't have a good chance to win another championship when Lillard joined the Bucks, but now that Strawther has kicked so much ass, I once again consider them the favorites.
Loyalist of the Banner is a truly incredible phrase. Go Nuggets!
Very fair evaluation. Re 'not improving,' important to understand that the Nuggets ownership and FO believe the Nuggets core has a 4-5 year championship window given how young the team is. Getting a couple of more chips during that window–even if the odds of repeating this year are slim–is the goal. Doubling down on young guys they can develop into serious contributors or trade chips for playoff worthy vets if needed makes sense, especially with the new CBA. Whatever you think about the Kroenkes they're nothing if not patient. A Super Bowl championship, Stanley Cup championship and an NBA chip in the last 3 years might indicate they know what they're doing.
Great show! You 💯 stayed consistent w your process and are givin my beloved Nuggs the flowers they deserve. Always appreciate your basketball mind and takes, especially now that you’ve been convinced that the Joker is absolutely “The One”. Top o the hat to you bro!
Ridiculous. The nuggets title run was a fluke. Didn't beat any teams above 50 wins. First or second round exit at best
I appreciate your objective take. Especially as a lakers fan.
I honestly think Denver is being massively overrated. Jamal Murray had an all time great playoff run that I don’t think is replicable by him.
Animas Brewing Co. (Hat) Is located in Durango, Colorado…
well said bro
Here is the Nuggets take nobody is bringing up…. Murray will be noticeably better then last year (1st year after an injury is always rocky). MPJ will have another year maturity and also came off an injury. KCP will be in his 2nd year in the system, Joker and Gordon are in their peak and Christian is no longer a rookie. They got better…. significantly and at every position
Shouldn't bill russell be your goat if your a loyalist of the banner?
Covering the wnba would hurt the channel. The Algorithm is not kind.
I'm happy that Strawther is performing very well, shoots very well, makes great decisions and is decent in defense, but for me of the newcomers Nuggets I would still bet on Hunter Tyson, excellent positioning, good defense, size, rebounds, and shoots very well from all areas. Anyway, for me the Nuggets bench is better than they give credit for, and that's a good thing, being the underdog is what makes them play better.
Well, you're wrong again, Jason. Warriors are still the team to beat in the West. You didnt have the same energy for them last season as being the previous champ. Why switch philosophies, then explain it 😂?
I predicted Jamal would have a great season because one year removed from ACL, this year predict MPJ 2 years removed from back surgery a much better year than last year..
If I owned a NBA team Jason would be one of my heads of operations 🏀👌🏽
Jordan Poole did the same gym rat all summer…
Murray is kinda a "lazy" regular season player. He has top ten talent but the effort needs to be there every game.
@ 19:35 the answer to that question is NOT never, but once.
Does the 1980 NBA Finals MVP ring a bell?
Saying Jamal has to “prove it” in the regular season is absurd to me…the man just set records in this playoff run. SGA, Booker, etc all substantially worse performers in the playoffs.
