@San Antonio Spurs

Austin, Texas?

Not to trigger anyone with the title or topic, but it sounds like the Austin Reaves speculation was real…it’s just that the lights of Hollywood were too bright:

“He was suddenly one of the most talked-about targets of the offseason. **It wasn’t apparent if the Lakers would open their wallets or if another team, like the San Antonio Spurs, would woo him away.**

**San Antonio wasn’t just chatter; Reaves says the Spurs were a real possibility he considered.** ***But in the end, he couldn’t imagine himself playing in San Antonio****.* “I wanted to be back in L.A.,” Reaves says. Not just for a season—he wants to be a Laker for life. It’s more than a jersey to him; it’s a mentality, it’s a pride thing. It’s the connections he has built. He thought about how well the organization treated him. “They treated me like family, as good as they possibly could,” Reaves says.” (bold and italics me, not the article)

You think he changes his mind after seeing what Wemby has accomplished? For what it’s worth I feel like it’s good to know that the FO was trying to get him, a lot of people were talking about how they should have made a swing for him and grumbling that they didn’t even try…well, they did.

    I like the players that we have, but Reeves is a real talent that was evident last year.

    I mean I keep seeing all of this brought up, but it really just feels like a bunch of BS/ typical Lakers media generated drama

    Who really cares if Austin Reeves considered the Spurs. At the end of the day San Antonio literally didn’t make him an offer. They, not Reeves, chose not to move forward with him as a possibility. You can argue that it was because they thought the Lakers would likely match, but the reality is they didn’t think It was worth their time one way or another

    The media keeps trying to drag this around and generate some kind of drama about it, but it’s a non-story. He was always going to go back to the Lakers no matter what he says. There is literally no chance he was going somewhere else. They had to resign him. Also. Reeves turned down opportunities to be drafted in the second round, reportedly with guaranteed multi-year deals attached, so that he could be an undrafted free agent & with the Lakers. That’s an incredibly ballsy move for someone in his position to do. He’s always wanted to be in LA and he was always going to stay there.

    Plus, and I think Reeves is a really good player, he’s still not nearly good enough for there to be this much hoopla over him. No offense directed at U OP. I’m just so tired of seeing stories about this

    To be fair it’s hard to leave a city of what like 8 million who is in love with you and conversely the nba media. Now if he was getting the attention that Danny was getting for missing 1 shot in the finals then he’d leave LA in a heartbeat, also wouldn’t be surprised if that sentiment ages like milk by the end of the season with how fast Lakers casual fans switch up

  4. This dumb stuff again?? Having the most money to offer means nothing. Reeves was never going to leave Lakers. Why would he?? Good deep playoff run. Laker fan favorite. Gonna be contenders this season. Even taking less money he will take in much more in laker exposure. Why the heck would he leave to SA?? Sure spurs prob gave agent a call, but easily realized he ain’t signing in SA.

    Its all academic at this point. He’s signed a deal with the Lakers and any thoughts he might have been offered, had considered, would possibly come here are irrelevant at this point.

    Reaves was never going to leave the Lakers, he WANTS to play there. It’s speculated that his agent warned teams not to draft him specifically because he wanted to be there.

    I will always respect a guy who reups with a team because they want to be a lifer with that team. I don’t care what franchise it is or how much I don’t like it, the league needs more lifers
