[Tim Reynolds] Adam Silver just said on ESPN that the NBA is considering going back to East vs. West at the All-Star Game. Which would mean no more player draft at All-Star weekend.

  1. Good. Was a fun gimmick for a hot minute, but the novelty has worn off.

  2. damn Lebron had the chance to be 6-0 in all star drafts and then have the format end.

but he lost last year so he’s 5-1

  3. DogeGod_Ricky-C

That shit was dumb as hell.. Team LeBron vs Team Giannis every year for 20 years

    Poll: Funnier All-Star Draft moment

A: LeBron slandering the Utah Jazz after saying there’s no slander

B: KD & LeBron not picking Harden and him being the last pick

  5. PeytonsPride18

Good call. East vs West is what makes it fun. Still need to spice it up though.

Not to sound like an oldhead, but when can we start blaming players for why the all-star game sucks now. Everyone is always talking about how they have no incentive to try, but players used to try hard just because they were competitive and cared about winning.

A lot of players seem to not give a shit about anything until the playoffs start.

  7. Smellmyhand

Why don’t the writers just tragically kill off a legend every year before the all star break so players will take it seriously

  8. I’m not sure there is anything they can do to get me to watch an all star game, I’m impressed and confused over 4 million people still tuned in last year.

  9. BozePerkovic

So funny to see the reverse, when the draft came out everyone was all for it saying East v West was dated and this allowed for more stars playing together, now it’s a gimmick and East v West was the best. Ridiculous. Still a fan of the draft honestly.

I for one am going to miss the 2.5-hour ASG selection show which would begin a half-hour after the reported/scheduled game tip-off time because of pregame concerts involving some washed 2000s hip-hop singer.

  11. Pilgrims-to-Nowhere

Glad to hear it. West still arguably has the higher concentration of talent, but it’s not really as lopsided as it once was. And with two of NOLA/MIN/MEM potentially moving East once Vegas and Seattle are added, it will likely get even more balanced.

It just feels right to have East vs West.

  12. kungfoojesus

All star weekend is broken because of culture. Changing events, scheduling, format won’t fix that.

  13. RVAIsTheGreatest

It would be a great way to inject some competitiveness into the All Star Game again and intrigue and generally when Silver says things like this openly, they end up happening. It could be just what the All Star Game needs to breathe life into it.

  14. BobLobLaw_Law2

Format is irrelevant unless there is incentive.

  15. throwawayjoeyboots

East vs West used to get legitimately competitive when everyone was shitting on the East constantly in the early 00s.

  16. Legitimate_Secret_79

Do people not remember how much of a waste of time this last all star game was? Why does this absolute waste of space of a match generate so much discussion, threads etc. Its a horrendous product, a layup line. Stop talking about it, maybe it will go away

  17. orphan_of_Ludwig

Bro just cancel the all star game and take a week off, no one is going to care

  18. LostThePassword34

Yeah, bring East vs West back, and make these dudes player in their real jerseys like it’s 2001.

  19. therealbowlcutjesus

Does anyone even care about the all star game anymore?

  20. TremendoSlap

Translation: the East is no longer trash so we can go back to business

  21. I liked the concept of how they did last year, but the execution was oof.

No big intros or puffs of dry ice or anything. Just put all the All-stars at midcourt and have the captains pick them exactly as if it’s open gym.

  22. MikeyBastard1

Still think they should have made the All Star Draft Team Chuck vs Team Shaq for peak comedy.

Throw some celebrities into the main all star game. Maybe a fan contest. Let us see average Joe defend a Giannis post up. Add a 4 point shot to the game. Could also add some stakes into the game. Whoever is on the winning team gets a chance at one night alone with Riley Reid or something I dunno. I’m just a small guy with big ideas. Hit me up Silver.

  23. One stupid idea out, another stupid idea in (in season tournament). Silver stinks.

  24. TheBaconD

Idk why people think the the draft was the problem in the allstar game. It’s obviously the players just don’t care

  25. MarilynMansplain

Centers play guard, guards play center. Everyone gets only one shoe.

  26. Just get rid of the All-star game entirely at this point.

  27. _Toblerone

This might be a boomer take but I enjoy East vs West matchup more, even though most of the time the matchups were really uneven

  28. They should go back to that… the drafting is so corny

  29. memarianomusic

3v3 half court tournament. Chain nets like at the park.

  30. Honestly don’t have a problem with this because there’s just no basis year to year anymore. Nor is there any interesting tidbits with playoff rivals having to play on the same team. The All Star game already lost its luster, the draft just dilutes it more.

  31. goats4all777

The draft is literally the only good part of the all star game.
