  1. Chauncey been milking the blazers since day one.He never tried to put in the work and it shows from the years with tanking. His brother is on the coaching team too and they are both just milking the organization. He takes the team to Santa Barbra for practice so he can go play at his favorite golf place. And all for having a coach who’s still learning and wasting great talents. He’s really gotta go,but why would any other team want him?

  2. well the reality is this team isnt very good, so if this is truly the case then he might as well resign now. Too many players playing out of position PERIOD……..I dont see them winning 35 games all season.

  3. Jury still out on Chauncy. Players like him, but can he coach? At least he has the pieces for a great defense.

  4. Priority number one is teaching the young players how to win. I don' t know the overall plan with all of the vets. Are we trading Malcolm? I assume so. Timelord? Ayton? Grant? That is on the GM/direction of the team, whether we go fully towards blowing it up or not. The worst case scenario is watching a team full of players gunning for their own shots, or Billups not playing the young players enough minutes.

  5. Sure hope this is the prove it or move on season cause haven’t seen much of anything Billups is great at besides saying the right things but doesn’t back it up with good results. Hopefully he won’t get any excuses to hide behind like he has the last couple years. Somehow he made Stotts look good. Haha. But these young bucks deserve a good coach to utilize their sky high talent.

  6. Anyone in their right mind knows Chauncey is an incompetent and poor coach. Bottom 5 in the league, probably bottom 3.

  7. I don't think it really matters who coaches this team right now. Chauncey is good enough. I don't think this is a make or break year for him, but he is essentially disposable. The coaching job going forward is his to win.

  8. So basically Chauncey has adapted to what his players strengths are. That’s not a bad thing. I’m not a fan of Chauncey as a coach, but his ability and willingness to lean into his players strengths is not in question. That’s not a bad thing. He is willing to do what works regardless of preference. Great. Unfortunately, I haven’t seen that he’s able to help players expand their potential beyond what they already bring to the table. Good coaches can get players to tap into just a little bit extra that they themselves weren’t aware they were capable of. To develop that small change in the offense that brings out the best in everyone. That is what a great coach does. Haven’t seen that from Chauncey yet.

  9. I've been wanting to say this for a while, but this feels alot like what the Cardinals are doing in the NFL, with the main difference being that the Blazers never truly hit rock bottom the way AZ did (there was a whole new GM and Coaching Regime in town it was so bad). Both teams are likely to end up with high draft picks, but winning isn't a bad thing either.

  10. The win/loss record may be bad this year? It may be bad? What have you been saying daily – like every sane person? This team is almost certainly going to suck and Pop couldn't change that outcome.

He wanted to play more aggressive defense. You note, his squad had a ton of weak links…so, that is his fault? When we sucked at defense prior to his arrival for the same reasons…hmm, ok. And he couldn't do what he wanted to do on offense because…wait for it…we didn't have players with the right skills. But yeah, let's criticize him for that problem. And he was smart enough to adjust (like Stotts before him) and let Dame shine, but ok.

We got here by hating on a coach whose teams overachieved, but didn't quite win enough to please this fan base. We knew we couldn't get quality players around Dame to get a legit chance to go far in the playoffs, so it was easier to make it look like we were making positive changes by getting a new coach. Now we have a team that will be dwelling in the cellar for a couple of years because we went with a youth movement because we still couldn't build around our star…and fans want wins even though they were stoked for the rebuild. The base is no longer tethered to reality.

Sorry, got a six pack calling my name.

  11. Both of Billup's years Portland was lesser than the sum of their parts. I think that is on the coaching as much as anything else.

Can he learn and adapt? Maybe. I like Chauncey and I think the jury is still out. More then anything I think Portland needs to find an offensive and defensive identity.

Whenever management decides this team is ready to play to win, Billups needs to win. Not sure when that will be.
